Operations Supervisor – Job Description 
The Operations Supervisor is a front-line supervisory position.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to direct oversight of the window dispatch department, management of operations shift schedules, tracking of operations time off requests, coaching, and mentoring employees; carrying out counseling and disciplinary actions as warranted; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Overview:
  • Supervise daily shifts of operators and coordinates the activities of window dispatch personnel. 
  • Supervise timekeeping/recording of work time for drivers and dispatch employees ensuring that VDS/Ops systems are reflecting dispatch’s recording timekeeping (monitor daily).
  • Makes spontaneous decisions regarding shift assignments, including Standby Operators.
  • Use dispatching and scheduling tools such as VDS, Command Console, Transdev VISION, and Trapeze to manage day to day service delivery and provide training to other staff in their use.
  • Ensure VDS/Ops System is reflecting scheduled time off.  Drivers are communicated with promptly.
  • Maintain all records neatly filed and in good order in accordance with location practices.
  • Maintain proper staffing levels for the department based on operational needs.
  • Requires the ability to assume the daily functions of Window Dispatch should operational need arise.
  • Ensure adequate standards are met for attendance, and issues discipline as needed.
  • Accomplishes staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees.
  • Respond and investigate service failures related to Dispatch. Identify causes, partner with Operations Manager to discuss corrective action plans, coaching, and/or discipline as needed.
  • Developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Consciously create a workplace culture that is consistent with the overall organization and that emphasizes the identified vision, guiding principles, and values of the organization.
  • Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, appropriate email, and regular interpersonal communication.
  • Create an atmosphere of professionalism & mutual support among employees.
  • Adhere to and ensure all company policies are followed. 
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Minimum 1-year prior experience in Dispatch or operations environment.
  • 1-year prior supervisory experience.  Transportation experience preferred. 
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented field environment.
  • Requires above average computer expertise.  Must be proficient in use of common office computer systems including MS Office, and various other Transdev support systems including VDS, Command Console and Vision.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate employees engaged in a variety of activities. 
  • Ability to work various hours/shifts and split off days.
  • Demonstrate ability to identify and understand problems and to determine the appropriate measures it takes to solve problems.
  • Considerable interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and to prepare reports.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

Physical Demands: 
  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and legs and moving the whole body, such as walking, standing, and handling materials. 
  • Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time, to kneel/bend, and to move throughout the workday.
  • Strong sensory skills, such as good hearing, dexterity, and good eyesight.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry 50 lbs.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods working on a computer and phone. 
  • Position is subject to future DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing as required by Federal Transit Administration.
