Description

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a walk around the premises prior to beginning the day’s activities to evaluate the operation. This will include making documentation of items related to safety, checking parking conditions, random inspection of buses, cleanliness of the location, office and shop conditions, and all other items related to this evaluation; after which the operations manager shall report to the manager upon the completion of this inspection.
  • Supervises A.M./P.M. sign in boards to ensure all routes run on time. Monitors operators to check that each is prepared to drive and has received notification of any route changes. Completes the A.M. dispatch log recording all operator tardiness and absenteeism. Assigns spare operators and buses as required to provide on time coverage of routes.
  • Ensures that delays in service are recorded and communicated. In addition, makes sure all accidents or breakdowns are handled appropriately.
  • Monitors operator absence and tardiness. Initiates appropriate disciplinary action in a manner consistent with company/location policy. Advises OM of individual situations that require further attention.
  • Is available at the dispatch counter after a.m. routes to assist operators with questions or problems. Supervises the communication of operator concerns or route changes.
  • Assists the manager in meeting customer requirements.
  • Assists the OM with supervision of location staff. Communicates job requirements and expectations. Monitors the performance of staff and provides coaching and guidance as required.
  • Takes corrective action with an employee who fails to meet company policy or customer needs.
  • In the event of an important meeting, appropriate steps should be taken to represent Veolia with the highest regard to customer service and professionalism.
  • Other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of at the facility.
  • Reports directly to the Operations Manager in fulfilling daily operations including but not limited to route supervision, staff and operator supervision, effective communication with internal and external customers and coaching employees for optimal performance, managing the entire operation in the absence of the OM, complying with all Company and client policies.

Education, Licensing, and Certifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, preferred.
Experience:
  • 2 or more years of relevant operator experience, including supervisory experience, required.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Knowledge of service area and ability to read a map.
  • Ability to use a computer to generate reports and schedules.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret transit system operating rules, regulations, policies, phases and routes.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to organize and perform work efficiently, strong attention to detail.
Travel requirement (as a percent): 5% travel for occasional meetings; day-to-day travel required for emergency and other route issues.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must be able to maintain a DOT medical card.
  • Must submit to drug testing and a criminal background check.
