Position Overview
Transdev Rail, Inc. is seeking a Project Civil Estimator/Engineer with a strong construction background to join our expanding track construction team in Southern California. The Civil Estimator/Engineer is a member of the construction-estimating team who is responsible for independently preparing the civil sections of a bid project, its development and construction document estimates including soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids and scopes of work, preparing quantity surveys, and reviewing project plans and specifications for all civil categories of work (e.g. grading, underground utilities/storm drains, paving, SWPPP, BMP, etc. This individual will support the track construction and estimating team on the civil aspects of the project, under the supervision of the Chief Estimator. The compensation for the Project Civil Estimator/Engineer position in San Dimas CA. is $89,300.00 - $115,000.00 a year. Essential Functions: 
Civil Estimating:
  • Performs accurate, thorough, and timely quantity takeoffs using excel, and company’s estimating program – Heavy bid.
  • Ability to communicate and obtains bid clarification on plans and specifications during the bidding process of the ITB/TFB and RFP
  • Solicits and analyzes material pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Performs technical/plan review when required.
  • Accurately assesses and plans takeoff workload
  • Develop unit costs accurately
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and job walks.
  • Bid development and assembly for final bid submission.
  • Perform other relative office/site functions when delegated to do so.
Technical Functions (Secondary Duties as needed): 
Project Administration and Coordination:
  • Assist the Chief Estimator and PM to process submittals and shop drawings for approval
  • Assist the Chief Estimator and PM for project change order proposals.
  • Assists the Chief Estimator and PM in the development of the Bid into a project plan.
  • Communicate and coordinate with the project team on material submittals and approvals.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Construction Management, Engineering, or related fields with a minimum of 3 years of civil construction and estimating experience.
  • Knowledgeable in some of the following: civil/site construction, foundation, grading and paving, underground utilities/underdrain, storm drain systems, excavation, etc.
  • Strong computer skills include the ability to use/learn the Heavy Bid estimating software, word process, spread sheets, and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
  • Possess good organizational skills and strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a challenging environment, and willing to work long hours including weekends when needed and required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record with no more than three (3) moving violations and no DUI’s within the last three (3) years to be considered for the job
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination including a drug screen and alcohol test to be considered for the job.
