Hiring Immediately for a Maintenance Trainer/Instructor Annual Salary $125,000

OVERVIEW: 
The position supports our NICE Bus system for Nassau County in Garden City, New York and will report to the Director of Fleet Maintenance while working closely with the specific depot Maintenance Managers.  The Maintenance Trainer/Instructor will draw on previous experience in transportation, ideally from a transit system, and have experience teaching as an instructor in a formal classroom setting and hands on instruction on various bus parts on the maintenance floor.
 
The maintenance trainer performs classroom and hands on instruction to include but not limited to technician development program, basic and advanced training, new equipment familiarization training, remedial training and shop safety meetings.  Works directly with the maintenance manager regarding compliance, training documentation, and safety programs.  It is the responsibility of the Maintenance Trainer/Instructor to assist in the implementation of all policies and procedures as determined by Transdev/NICE Bus in order to maintain regulatory compliance with state and federal agencies including state and federal DOT.  
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Determines training objectives by conducting analysis of overall needs and specific skill or knowledge gaps.
  • Manages the development of training programs and materials including outlines, text, handouts, hands on exercises, and training evaluations.
  • Ensures new technicians and service personnel are thoroughly trained in the safe and efficient handling of vehicles and equipment to exceed customer standards. 
  • Monitors the progress of technicians and service personnel to ensure proper training.  Ensures all employee training records are in compliance with training policies.
  • Assesses and manages any contractors utilized to deliver specialized training.Manages the ASE Program.
  • Performs new equipment familiarization and refresher training.
  • Acts as a resource to provide employees with expert information on operation of equipment.
  • Assists with advanced diagnostics on equipment as needed.
  • Will be utilized to develop fleet defect solutions, work with bus manufacturers and aid in the development and specifications of future tool, software and vehicle purchases.
  • Monitors and trains maintenance employees on OSHA compliance.
  • Recommends additional methods, procedures, and preventative measures to provide the highest level of safety.
  • Supervises with other Maintenance managers to educate and train maintenance personnel which may lead to recommending discipline.
  • Monitors technician performance in a manner consistent with company/location policy
  • Provides technical assistance and on-the-job training to mechanics.
  • Performs related work as required and other tasks as assigned.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • College or technical degree preferred.
  • Possess a combination of hands-on experience and formal instruction training in a classroom setting as well as on the maintenance floor.
  • Three years’ experience in the repair and maintenance of all types of automotive and transit equipment or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engines, automatic transmissions, air brakes, steering, and drivelines.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of the theory of electricity and also be able to read and understand wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers' License with a passenger endorsement.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information/situations.
  • Must be a team player yet able to work well independently.
  • Must be able to work well with a diverse group of internal and external customers.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety/training procedures.
