The Road Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the performance of service and attends to all day-to-day issues regarding routes, customer concerns, vehicles issues and the Operator team’s performance. Reporting directly to the Safety Manager, 95% of their time will be spent working in the field.
DUTIES:
- Demonstrates and promotes a “safety first” lifestyle at the location.
- Responsible for coaching, counseling, and retraining operator staff members through documentation of employees based on observed failure to perform the job in a safe manner and in accordance with Company and client specifications.
- Assists operators in overcoming operational challenges.
- Ensures operators are fit-for-duty at all times and ensures scheduling compliance.
- Conduct on-road observations of service to ensure proper implementation of all operating rules and procedures.
- Ensures operator pre- and post-trip operating procedures.
- Ensure on-time-performance specifications.
- Prepares and submits required reports in a timely manner.
- Responds to any service-related assignments.
- May be asked to operate the vehicle when necessary.
- Communicate face-to-face with the riding public as outreach and customer service, and to answer any questions on the ground.
- Assesses safety conditions of all aspects of bus service and monitors operator and passenger behavior while in service.
- Oversees a smooth commuting experience for Operator and the public and share “best practices” with entire team.
- Escalates issues to management team members when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned to ensure the efficiency of the operation.
REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent. Degree preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the transportation industry with emphasis on safety.
- 2-3 years supervisory experience, preferably in transportation.
- Knowledge of state and local regulations/guidelines, inclusive of DOT, FTA, and FMCSA.
- Ability to interpret and initiate policies and procedures.
- Valid Drivers’ License.
- Considerable knowledge of and ability to use personnel computers and related software.
- Demonstrate ability to identify and understand problems and to determine the appropriate measures it takes to solve problems.
- Considerable interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, excel and other Office packages.
- Trapeze experience a plus.
- Ability to manage customer relationships, provide strong customer service skills and work in a fast-paced team environment.
- Proven organization skills, understanding importance of prioritizing effectively and managing multiple tasks in an environment with ever competing demands.

- 5% of work is accomplished in doors and in air conditioned or well-ventilated facilities.
- 95% of work is accomplished outside in varying temperature, weather, and humidity conditions; most work is performed alone and in remote locations.
- Frequently stands and walks; ability to sit for up to three hours; walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift material weighing up to 50 lbs. with assistance; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch; and corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication.
- Exposure to heavy traffic areas while performing the duties of the job.
- Exposure to considerable amounts of dust, vehicle fumes and noise.
- Must be able to travel for company training, meeting or support missions.
