The Test Engineer Manager acts as the Transdev Systems Engineering liaison working with the client and Transdev employees. Evaluates and interacts with Test Engineers and the Systems Engineering team, to include coaching, mentoring, hiring, disciplinary, and termination as necessary. They are accountable for team performance, work quality and compliance with processes, training, and system emergency responses. Assures coordination with other engineers and drives process improvements. Acts as an intermediary between the Sr. Ops Manager, Operations Manager and the Test Engineering team.
Pay Range - $60.00 - $70.00
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain Transdev’s high standard of safety, inside and outside of the vehicle.
- Operate with safety as the primary goal;
- Be the deputy for technology by communicating courteously with Senior Management, engineers, and the frontline staff;
- Collaborate with stakeholders, project managers and customers in forming strategies to improve performance and successfully operate the program;
- Mentor and coach staff to maintain high levels of performance and positive morale;
- Assist in creating and maintaining a training program and materials;
- Lead and drive program development of training materials with the engineering team;
- Staff planning including adjusting to shifting test priorities and solving complex problems quickly;
- Create and execute solutions to complex scenarios
- Management of engineering team, maintaining support and ensuring their projects are developed according to protocol and team standards;
- Assign and track progress on projects and/or assigned tasks
- Lead the execution of vehicle and/or functional and performance test workstreams
- Recruit, hire, mentor, and manage top-notch engineers to meet the needs of large-scale autonomous vehicle deployment
- Create a team environment that fosters inclusion, diversity, and respect, and allows team members to thrive personally and professionally
- You and your team will develop software to enable verification, integration, and regression testing including continuous integration infrastructure, automation capabilities, analysis tools, and hardware-in-the-loop integrations
- You and your team will develop Requirements for SDS and vehicle platform performance.
- Your team will be responsible for developing verification methods and test plans to verify system and component level performance requirements.
- Your team will be responsible for executing tests using full vehicle tests, Hardware in the loop, component tests, and software based tests.
- You and your team will be responsible for building and automating a variety of test capabilities (or collaborating to get those capabilities built) that ensure the performance, integrity, and safety of Waymo’s autonomous driving technology
- Develop the capability of your team members to take on more complicated workflows.
- Monitor the output quality and efficiency of a team of Test Engineers.
- Ensure safe testing operations by developing appropriate processes, training, and oversight
- Improve the quality and coverage of the verification of a system
- Build new processes that improve organization, traceability and clarity
- Develop and improve processes that increase operational efficiency of test execution
- Apply Waymo policies, procedures, standards, code of conduct throughout -including taking personal responsibility for the safety of self and others during testing
- Maintain a high degree of confidentiality of all information
- All other duties as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
- 3 or more years of direct management experience, with a demonstrated ability to grow and lead high performing teams and organizations
- 4 or more years in integrated hardware and software testing
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field (including ME, EE, CS, Robotics, Controls, Aerospace, etc.) or equivalent practical experience
- Vehicle Testing and/or Testing automation experience
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Must have good attention to detail and be able to quickly solve complex problems;
- Capable of responding quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios;
- Adapt quickly to new and developing technology;
- Cross-functional verbal and written communication and issue escalation;
- Must be able to multitask multiple technologies, including Test Engineering tools and vehicle hardware systems;
- Must be able to work during business hours, with occasional night and/or weekend coverage, as well as the ability to travel up to 20% of the time; Ability to travel and/or work on weekends based on business needs;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Must be self-motivated and demonstrate good judgment, in fast-paced, high stress environments;
- Leadership skills to manage a team of engineers with various backgrounds;
Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
- Knowledge in system engineering principles such as defining requirements, and formal verification and validation methods
- Experience developing and driving integration or design verification programs
- Experience in autonomous vehicles, assisted driving technology, or other safety critical systems
- Software Engineering experience (including C/C++, Python) with embedded systems and/or test infrastructure
Physical Requirements:
- Long periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Use hands to finger; handle or feel; and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders.
- Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Must be 21 years old;
- All Transdev employees must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check. Safety Sensitive Positions will also be subject to a physical screening
- Transdev maintains a Drug Free Workplace and may require participation in a random drug screening program.
- Transdev reserves the right to perform ongoing background checks for all employees except in states where this is prohibited by state law. Transdev will consider qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements.
- Employees must maintain an acceptable Driving Record suitable to being approved to drive as part of their regular duties. Records are monitored on an ongoing or regular basis pursuant to local state law.
- Ability to qualify for an Autonomous Vehicle Tester (AVT) license in states and positions where it’s required
