Position Overview
As an apprentice, on the job you will be trained to build new track, maintenance and how to use basic track tools. This person must be able to lift 50 lbs. and stand and work outdoors 8 – 12 hours a day. Work schedule is Monday through Friday, including some nights, weekends, and holidays.
Through the union, this person will go to classes and complete a set number of hours of on-the-job training for each phase before they can move up to the next one, total of 6 phases before completing the apprenticeship program.   
 
**This is a Full time, contract position—The position is scheduled to be done around mid-2026. The hourly rate for this position is $23.44/hour, and is part of the Union.
 
Key Responsibilities: 
  • You will be a skilled track laborer in training. 
  • Moves and installs various track components.  
  • Lifts rail, etc. 
Requirements: 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent  
  • Valid driver's license for a minimum of 3 years 
  • Will be trained to use track jacks and must be able to lift 50 lbs. or more.
  • Work schedule is Monday through Friday, with some night and weekend work.
Physical Requirements: 
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Must be able to sustain alertness under tedious circumstances. 
  • Must be able to work in various outdoor temperatures and weather conditions. 
  • Must be able to work variable shifts including nights/weekends/possibly some holidays.
