JOB TITLE:                 Request for consideration- Police Officer, Special Conditions Unit

DEPT/DIV:                 MTA PD/ Investigative Services Bureau, Special investigation Division

SUPERVISOR:           Commanding Officer, Special Investigations Division

HOURS OF WORK:   Ten (10) hour and sixteen (16)-minute shifts, four (4) days per week, three (3) consecutive rest days

 

SUMMARY:

The Department is seeking qualified members from the rank of Police Officer who are interested in being assigned to Special Investigations Division, Special Conditions Unit.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Targeting crime patterns and conditions
  • Developing strategies for crime reduction
  • Monitoring warrants of chronic offenders
  • Assisting with the apprehension and extradition of wanted persons
  • Criminal investigations support
  • May be required to provide strategic and analytical support to other bureaus
  • May be required to become certified in drone operation
  • May serve in liaison position with outside local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies
  • Perform uniformed and plain clothes enforcement operations
  • Initiating homeless interactions
  • Addressing other special conditions as identified by the Chief of Police
  • Must be willing to be placed in an “on call” rotation as per article 13, section 1 of the CBA

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualified Officers must, at a minimum, have the following qualifications/requirements to be considered for appointment:

 

  • Have completed at least one (1) year of service with the MTA Police Department.
  • Successful completion of the Probationary Period and Field Training Program.
  • Demonstrated ability to excel in a team atmosphere
  • Ability to work and complete assignments with limited supervision
  • Must be able to show self-initiated activity
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Understanding of report writing in Central Square
  • Successfully complete an interview before an Interview Panel
  • Demonstrate proficiency in arrest procedures throughout the system
  • Willingness to work varying tours and assignments
  • Ability to travel from residence to incidents within the MTAPD service area within a reasonable time will be taken into consideration
  • Complete a "Candidate Application (Form #69) and forward it to his or her immediate supervisor who shall complete the applicable sections and then forward the form through the chain of command.
  • Officers classified as “Doctor Certified” or “Chronic Sick” may be excluded from the interview/selection process. 

 

 

OTHER INFORMATION:

Interested members who meet the above listed qualifications will be eligible to participate in a panel interview.  Candidates should understand that they are not guaranteed an assignment with the Special Investigations Division, even if they meet each of the above qualifications.

 

Any Police Officer assigned to the Special Conditions Unit may be considered for the rank of Detective at the discretion of the Chief of Police based on the budgeted number of vacancies available.
