Summary
Design/Design Compliance Services has technical authority for establishing and auditing design delivery standards for all engineering and architectural disciplines in C&D Delivery. The Assistant Design Manager supports the architectural and engineering design processes to conform to professional industry and MTA C&D standards.
Responsibilities
Support in-house technical designs for non-Design-Build projects.
Assist in the monitoring and/or auditing of third-party technical design and engineering activities for compliance with the contract's requirements.

The incumbent leads the design team to effectively execute the design management process, including involvement in project planning and responsibility for scope development/management, design, and design support services through the project lifecycle.
Responsible for ensuring that project design deliverables reflect all project planning documentation, applicable design standards and guidelines, and project requirements of the MTA operating agency clients.
In coordination with the Delivery Services Office, manage the adoption of innovative methods, processes, and standards to ensure effective and efficient delivery of design management and design support, maximizing quality outcomes following established requirements.
Oversee design team performance, ensure that project designs are delivered on schedule and within budget and maintain appropriate project documentation.
Ensure design functions are executed in compliance with relevant standards, guidelines, laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Oversee design team participation in project alternatives, feasibility, cost-benefit, risk, constructability, lifecycle cost analyses, and studies.
Develop and maintain productive and transparent relationships with all relevant stakeholders, including MTA operating agency clients.
Ensure effective communication on project status and timely resolution of issues.
Oversee selection, development, and motivation of personnel.
Ensure prompt and effective coaching, counseling, and career development for subordinates.
Responsible for reviewing staff performance and discipline/termination of employees when necessary.
Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction or Project Management, Business Administration, Transportation, or a related field.
Must have a minimum of four 4 years of related experience.
Competencies:
Licensed Professional Engineer or Registered Architect required.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.) and strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.).
