Hourly Rate:                    $19.00 (Undergraduate)
 
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
 
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
 
MTA New York City Transit Paratransit (Access-A-Ride) Service is a federally mandated service, in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, providing origin-to-destination, demand-response, shared ride transportation for individuals with disabilities that cannot use fixed route public buses and subways. The Command Center Scheduling team manages all trip requests for Access-A-Ride, including demand and subscription services, taxis, brokers, and carriers. The Command Center Scheduling team prepares and distributes accurate schedules to carriers and brokers, ensuring timely communication to prevent delays. The department ensures that schedules are cost-effective, and compliant with ADA standards. Additionally, the Scheduling department implement strategies to reduce operational costs while maintaining service quality and accessibility for individuals with disabilities. 
The intern will review and support the development of the carrier matrix to ensure that adequate service levels are provided for dedicated vendors. Under supervision, the intern will analyze daily service-level trends using historical data to ensure that the schedules include the necessary number of routes and are cost-effective.
 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • •    Assist in analyzing and updating the carrier matrix to improve service coverage.
    •    Provide assistance in creating grids to support road closures for events.
    •    Document and track daily activities and modifications to support monthly summary reports.
    •    Create Floater routes to accommodate and support special events and delays in service.
    •    Assist in the coordination of special event assignments to ensure smooth operations.
    •    Assist with research and investigation of customer complaints and service issues for resolution.
    •    Assist with the E-hail pilot reconciliation process and reports to maintain accuracy.
    •    Assist in analyzing daily trip forecasts to manage and optimize service needs.
 
PROJECTS:
  •    Assist in analyzing carrier matrix to improve vehicle utilization.
  •     Assist with the development of the holidays schedules to ensure acceptable capacity for service demand. 
  •     Provide assistance in evaluating subscription customers to improve on time performance and customer satisfaction.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills. 
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional time management skills.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Matriculated in a graduate program in good standing with at least 2.8 GPA 
  • Major(s) Preferred: Urban Planning, Administration, Liberal Arts, or a related field.
