Job Title:  Request for Consideration - Sergeant, Transit Conditions Unit

Dept/Div: Transit Conditions Unit / Transit Operations Division

Supervisor: Commanding Officer/Executive Officer, Transit Operations Division

Location: Various Locations

Hours: Three (3) tours of 12 hours, 20 minutes (12:20) with four (4) consecutive rest days, with   a giveback day every third week.

Tour of Duty:0640X1900 or 1840X0700

 

Summary:

The Department is seeking qualified Members from the rank of Sergeant who are interested in being assigned to the Transit Conditions Unit within Transit Operations Division. The supervisor will be responsible for directing and managing officers assigned to the Transit Conditions Unit. The unit will be deployed throughout the NYCT system to curb existing complaints and patterns of quality-of-life conditions and issues. The Sergeant will assign, deploy, and direct officers within the unit to address specific conditions within the NYCT system. The supervisor will be responsible and accountable for officers within the unit. The supervisor will provide varied support to the Transit Operations Commanding Officer and Executive Officer as needed.

 

 Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, coordinate the deployment of officers based on current conditions
  • Review and investigate use of force incidents, service-related injury, prisoner injury, and civilian complaints relative to officers within the unit.
  • Attend interagency meetings representing the department as needed.
  • Coordinate joint operations with outside police entities, such as NYPD, AMTRAK, and PAPD.
  • Maintain weekly data from initiatives, and coordinate data collections with the Transit Ops Admin Supervisor.
  • Maintain personnel’s MARCs, time off requests, unit deployment, payroll, etc.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by the Commanding Officer or Executive Officer   

 

Qualifications:

Qualified Sergeants must, at a minimum, have the following qualifications/requirements to be considered for appointment:

  • Currently holds the rank of Sergeant with at least one (1) year of experience.
  • Prior experience within the Transit Operations Division is preferred.
  • Proficiency in preparing reports
  • Highly motivated and organized
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Be willing and able to attend meetings at the direction & discretion of the Commanding and Executive Officers
  • Advanced communication skills, including but not limited to being able to interact with transit agency representatives.
