COMPENSATION
- Assistant Civil Engineer (TA Rep) - $76,279.00 – $99,528.00
- Assistant Civil Engineer (OA Rep) – $76,279.00 - $99,528.00
- Assistant Civil Engineer (OA Non-Rep) - $71,469.00 - $93,251.00
RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent will perform supervisory duties within the civil engineering discipline. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and evaluating the work of subordinates in the preparation of progress reports. The incumbent will represent Bus Operations in interactions with State and City agencies, consultants, contractors, and damage claimants. Additional duties include preparing or overseeing the preparation of both fundamental and complex design elements for major projects involving the construction, renovation, operation, maintenance, or repair of structures and installations. The incumbent will monitor field surveys and construction inspections to ensure compliance with technical codes and contract specifications.
The role also involves performing design assessments and cost estimates for technical reports and modification requests, inspecting equipment and materials for acceptance, and processing related payments. The incumbent will interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical plans to develop engineering criteria, contract drawings, and technical specifications. Participation in engineering investigations, structural condition assessments, and the preparation of related reports is also required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Assistant Civil Engineer
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering technology and three years of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
A Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the State of New York may be
required for certain assignments. If required, this license must be maintained for
duration of appointment.
SELECTION METHOD
Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience and interview. All selected candidates will be subject to a full background investigation that includes employment and education. Discrepancies may lead to dismissal.

Appointment may be at a comparable level to current level of selected candidate. As an employee of MTA NYC Transit you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the state of New York, if your position earns more than $101,379.00 (this is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
