Position Title:                   Registrar and Collection Care, Emerging Talent Intern (Summer)
Hourly Rate:                    $19.00 (Undergraduate)
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
 
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
Arts & Design creates meaningful connections between stations, neighborhoods, and the MTA's diverse ridership through a broad spectrum of artistic activity, including permanent art, posters, photography, digital art, live musical performances, and poetry. Our permanent art program is one of the largest and most diverse collections of site-specific contemporary public art in the world, with more than 400 works by world famous, mid-career, and emerging artists.
 
The Registrar and Collection Care intern will assist in supporting the care and management of the MTA's permanent art collection at 2 Broadway. Intern will support artwork documentation, condition reporting, and archive management.
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
1. Locate and document artwork in storage areas and throughout building at 2 Broadway
2. Data entry of object condition, location, and status
3. Review and organize artwork in storage
4. Conduct condition reviews of collection artwork
5. Record and track maintenance status of artworks
6. Organize digital files of artwork entries
7. Support inventory documentation of 2 Bdwy collection
8. Support artwork management (presentations, installation)
 
PROJECTS:
  • 1.    Artwork archive and database support
    2.    Artwork documentation and condition reviews
    3.    Storage and inventory of archival artworks and objects
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills. 
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
  • Required software skills: Filemaker Pro, Microsoft Suite, Adobe Creative Suite.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA
  • Major(s) Preferred:  Art History or Museum Studies, Humanities, or related field.
