Hourly Rate:                     $19.00 (Undergraduate) 
 
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
Consolidated Pensions is a group within the People Department. Our team manages the MaBSTOA Pension Plan, which serves 8,500 active members and 6,400 payees (retirees and beneficiaries). The team currently consists of 20 multidisciplinary staff that handle member services, retirement calculations, pension payroll, survivor benefits, and member service credit. 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The intern will support services that directly impact MTA (MaBSTOA) employees. These services are vital to the MTA's ability to operate an in-house pension plan for MaBSTOA employees. These responsibilities include:
  • Analyze service credit.
  •  Accurately update service credit
  •  Analyze earnings history to ensure it links with hours worked.
  • Research cases where service and earnings history are not aligned.
  • Participate in collaborative team activities like sprint planning and retrospective, and scrum
  •  Analyze benefit calculations
  • Prepare cases for benefit recalculation
  • Participate in benefit recalculation
 
PROJECTS:
  • Analyzing and updating service credit history for members who are vested but have separated from employment with the MTA.
  •  Analyzing and updating service credit history for members who have requested pension estimates.
  • Analyzing and revising certain benefit payments.  
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
  • The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills. 
  • The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
  • Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA 
  • Major(s) Preferred: Human Resources, Public Administration, Management, or related field.
