JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for organizing and monitoring inventory levels, carrying costs, and material availability and is accountable for the appropriate purchasing requisitions and/or transfer orders required to support Maintenance of Way’s operating/user departments’ requisitions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise and direct the activities of planning commodity groups within MofW Material Management.
- Review, approve, and/or adjust system generated reorder notifications.
- Approve and/or deny requests from storerooms and MofW operating departments for adjustments to current material forecasts based on appropriate analysis of material usage levels.
- Determine and approve appropriate stock levels for all assigned storerooms and provide monthly statistics to MofW operating departments.
- Identify, quantify and document material requirements to support scheduled program maintenance and Capital program requirements.
- Determine, approve and document excess/obsolete materials for disposal in accordance with Metro-North Railroad’s policies and procedures.

- Strong knowledge of safe work practices as they relate to a warehouse environment.
- Working knowledge of an automated procurement system or automated inventory/warehouse management system.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and/or comparable applications.
- Familiarity with PeopleSoft systems inventory/purchasing modules.
The following is/are preferred:
- Familiarity with Metro-North Railroad’s Asset Management System.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, and/or related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education and/or technical credentials may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressive business experience, in an inventory control, material management, material planning, warehousing, operations, and/or purchasing environment.
The following is/are preferred:
- Bachelor’s/ Degree in Business Administration, Transportation, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, and/or related field
- Supervisory experience, preferably in a material management/planning and/or warehousing environment

- Actual salary offers may vary based on individual work experience. The annual salary range is subject to change and may be modified at the company’s discretion.
- Employees driving company vehicles will be subject to License Monitoring and must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MTA drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
- Current employee applicants should be in their current position 12 months prior to starting a new role and must possess a satisfactory work history, including attendance and discipline record.
