GENERAL SUMMARY:
In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed herein, this position encompasses supervisory work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving the supervision of the receiving, checking, classification, storing, distribution, and issuing of materials and supplies; including: the operation of all material handling equipment; inventory systems updating and verifications; the loading and unloading of trucks; and all activities related to normal warehousing and distribution functions. The Storeroom Supervisor will report to and receive instructions from the Storeroom management staff to whom he/she is assigned. The candidate must demonstrate analytical, statistical, and customer service skills and must be able to communicate effectively.

Probationary Period
- You will be required to complete one year of probationary period. If you do not successfully complete the probationary period, you may be terminated or returned to your previously held title.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising storeroom staff engaged in the various storeroom warehousing, receiving, and issuing activities required to support SIRTOA’s maintenance operations, in accordance with the policies and procedures of NYCT’s Division of Supply Logistics. Duties and responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Supervising staff engaged in the receipt, checking, verification, classification, storage, distribution, and issuance of materials and supplies at the storeroom/s supporting SIRTOA operations.
- Supervising the loading and unloading of trucks, unpacking, counting, verification, sorting, marking, and placing materials and supplies received on pallets, shelves and in bins.
- Supervising the filling of requisitions, taking of inventory, the checking of materials received and the noting of breakage and differences in quantity handling, and the disposal and/or weighing of obsolete and scrap material.
- Making payments of freight charges and other authorized disbursements.
- Maintaining records and preparing reports.
- Preparing for and assisting in cycle count inventories.
- Operating computers and performing functions related to reviewing, verifying, and/or correction of input and the updating of the inventory management (TALON) and warehousing systems of New York City Transit.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of satisfactory full-time experience in an industrial, transportation, manufacturing or wholesale business as a stock worker dealing with the receipt, storage, and issuance of railroad, automotive, bus, machine, aircraft or marine maintenance tools, productions parts, plumbing, hardware or sheet metal supplies and tools.
- A satisfactory combination of education and experience.
NECESSARY/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Working knowledge of warehousing management and stock keeping procedures.
- Ability to accurately review data recorded on all forms and system entries and perform required reconciliations.
- Ability to perform detail-oriented work with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to meet deadlines and to focus with attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to evaluate the safe operation of all material handling equipment by employees and implement corrective measures, as warranted.
- Ability to work effectively under stress and in emergencies and to adapt to changes in work priorities.
- At the time of appointment, eligible candidates must possess a Motor Vehicle Driver’s License valid in the State of New York. Serious moving violations, license suspension, or accident record may disqualify an otherwise eligible candidate. A Motor Vehicle Driver’s License that is valid in the State of New York must be maintained for the duration of employment in this title.
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Experienced in the use of the Transit Authority Logistics Operations Network (TALON)
- Proficient in Microsoft office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook etc)
- Guard and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive documents, communication and discussions associated with effective management of SIRTOA and the Division of Supply Logistics.
- Supervise the handling and storage of various compressed gases.
- Use good judgment, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with employees and customers.
- A self-starter who can work independently with minimal management oversight.
- Effectively communicate information and instructions to staff.
- A thorough understanding of organizational and divisional goals, policies, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with all divisional and Authority safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
