COMPENSATION
 
  • Civil Engineering Intern: $68,709.00
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
The incumbent(s), as part of the Structural Inspection group, will be responsible for meeting external and internal inspection mandates to inspect concrete and steel and ensure that the system infrastructure is safe for use. Under supervision of senior engineers, duties will include comprehensive, up-close inspection of various NYCT structure types; maintaining defect database; analysis of defects; preparation of designs and repair plans; supervision of testing on-site; performing cost estimates and preparing scopes of work and project profiles for inclusion in repair work with in-house forces, vendor contracts and/ or capital programs in the Infrastructure Engineering subdivision. Additional duties will include attending planning, design, and field meetings to represent the Division; under the supervision of senior engineers, performing final inspections of completed work, and generating punch lists for Capital Projects; researching existing conditions, recording drawings, and files. Incumbent(s) will be trained to respond to trouble calls and emergencies relating to structural conditions on a 24-hour/7-day-a-week basis.
 
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
  • A baccalaureate degree in civil engineering from an accredited college.   
 
 
DESIRED SKILLS:
 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite and internet and mobile applications, as well as Micro Station and nonconformity databases.
  • Knowledge of structural inspection of concrete and steel.
  • Ability to read and write technical drawings and correspondence.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction design and code issues covering multiple city agencies.

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience and interview. All selected candidates will be subject to a full background investigation that includes employment and education. Discrepancies may lead to dismissal.

Appointment may be at a comparable level to current level of selected candidate. As an employee of MTA NYC Transit you may be required to complete an annual financial disclosure statement with the state of New York, if your position earns more than $101,379.00 (this is subject to change) per year or if the position is designated as a policy maker.
