TA applicants must be permanent in the Civil Engineer title or reachable on an established list (list number must be reachable).
 
 
COMPENSATION
 
  • Civil Engineer I - $90,551.00
  • Civil Engineer II - $107,655.00
  • Civil Engineer III - $120,427.00
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
This position is critical to support the mandated inspection program, provide technical guidance to Infrastructure Iron, ICC and the Division of Stations to ensure that our structures are kept in a state of good repair. CE is needed to support Design-Build Station and Structure Capital Projects by way of verification and joint condition surveys, tracking and prioritizing repairs, PRDC and design drawings review, pre-pour steel, rebar and form verification inspections, and pre-final and final inspections. We are already seeing the strain by being short staffed, most notably not participating in all design phase inspections. The operational portion of our mission is mandated by New York State and Federal Law. We need this reimbursable position to free our non-reimbursable staff to perform their core mission. Having this position will allow non-reimbursable staff to have more time to perform special inspections for recurring issues such as terracotta ceilings, decorative slats.
 
 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 
Civil Engineer I - III
 
A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License and four years of full-time
experience in civil engineering. A master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited
college will be accepted as equivalent to one year of the full-time experience in civil
engineering.
 
Special Note:
 
In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in
Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last
three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project
requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct
the project.
 
 
DESIRED SKILLS:
 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of MS Office suite and internet and mobile applications, as well as Micro Station and nonconformity databases.
  • Knowledge of structural inspection of concrete and steel.
  • Ability to read and write technical drawings and correspondence.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction design and code issues covering multiple city agencies.

Based on evaluation of education, skills, experience and interview.

Appointment may be at a comparable level to current level of selected candidate.
