Position Title: Data Center Operations, Tech & Engineering Fellow (Summer)
Hourly Rate: $21.00 (Undergraduate)
All internship positions are onsite and require regular, in-person attendance at the designated work location.
OVERVIEW OF DEPARTMENT:
Data Center Operations handles the management and monitoring of the physical plant of the MTAs Data Centers, including HVAC and Power support.Ideal fellows will have a background in engineering and architecture with a goal of certification as an Electrician or Professional Engineer or Architect. The fellow will assist with day-to-day operation and development of tools to monitor the state of good repair of our facilities. The fellow will develop skills to review project and as-built documentation , support the facilities team in the testing of control systems and the creation of MOP and SOP documents. This fellowship begins in Summer 2026, candidates should be ready to commit minimum of 12‑months in the role.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- System testing
- Drafting/review Standard Operating Procedure documentation for daily operation
- Drafting/review of Method of Procedure documentation for system maintenance
- Observation and oversight of State of Good Repair work for HVAC and Power
- Assist with Building Management System design and review
- Assist with Maintenance of HVAC and Power systems
- Explore options to optimize tools such as Solar Winds to better manage systems
- Cleanout of major site communications rooms
PROJECTS:
The fellow will be responsible for the following projects:
1) Assisting facilities engineering and our operations team in integrating monitoring and alarms into daily system checks.
2) Supporting the review of Uninterruptable Power Supply systems throughout the MTA to evaluate product lifecycle needs.
3) Reviewing plans for upgrade of MTA PD HQ building
4) Assisting with planned upgrade and consolidation of power and procedure in agency wide data closets.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is a must.
- The candidate should possess organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- The candidate should be able to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks effectively.
- The candidate should have a keen eye for detail and be able to work independently while being an active team player.
- Knowledge of power systems/equipment
- Basic understanding of HVAC systems
- Familiarity with Building Architecture
REQUIRED EDUCATION:
- Preferred Majors: Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
- Matriculated in an undergraduate program in good standing with at least 2.5 GPA
