Summary
 
The safety manager is directly responsible for managing the safety and risk associated with construction projects and company operations. The Manager of Safety will proactively develop, plan, direct, and implement MTA C&D's safety program to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. 
 
Responsibilities
 
Delivers and provides oversight of the MTA C&D's Safety Program, including developing and implementing safety policies and procedures under the guidance of the Safety Director.
 
Develops and implements project-specific safety policies and procedures.
 
Enforces compliance with all applicable federal, state, county, and local safety regulations.
 
Directs safety training programs to all levels of staff, as required by Federal and State safety regulations, to reduce accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
 
Supports the on-site construction compliance managers in ensuring each construction project is conducted safely and conducts operations to protect employees, contractors, subcontractors, and the general public.
 
Provide support to field staff in the event of an OSHA site inspection.
 
Coordinates with project management so that necessary protective equipment and safety materials are utilized, adequate first aid materials are available, and safety documents are posted on-site.
 
Education and Experience
 
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, Safety Engineering, Safety Management, or Construction Safety. 
 
Must have a minimum of six (6) years of related experience.
 
Competencies:
 
Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements.
 
Experience with construction safety contractor management programs or providing oversight for 3rd party services/contractors.
 
Possess a valid OSHA 30-hour card in the Construction Industry under five years old.
 
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
 
Proficient computer skills (i.e., Windows environment, Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Oracle, etc.) and strong business administrative skills (i.e., presentations, report and letter writing, time management, etc.).
 
Driver's License (required for some Business Units)

Pursuant to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the "Commission").
