Medscape, a division of WebMD, develops and hosts physician portals and related mobile applications that make it easier for physicians and healthcare professionals to access clinical reference sources, stay abreast of the latest clinical information, learn about new treatment options, earn continuing medical education credits and communicate with peers.

Responsibilities:

Medscape is seeking an enthusiastic, motivated UX Designer to work on our core Medscape products and occasionally participate in innovation-focused design sprints. The right match will be a creative problem solver who can work with the product team to synthesize business goals with user research into clean, user-friendly wireframes. This person should be able to ideate quickly, accept and act on direction, juggle multiple projects simultaneously, and be comfortable with rapid and frequent iterations.

The UX Designer will report to the Lead UX Designer and collaborate with Medscape product leadership as well as other members of the Medscape design team. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Creating UX artifacts such as personas, user journey maps and user flows to align the team’s vision
  • Conducting user research with doctors, such as user testing, user interviews and surveys
  • Producing clean wireframes that address both business goals and user needs
  • Presenting work to product team and explaining the rationale behind decisions and recommendations
  • Collaborating with visual designers and providing UX guidance throughout the visual design stage
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of Medscape products as well as key competitors
  • Participating in design sprints with product management and senior leadership

Qualifications:

Candidates must provide samples of work or a portfolio demonstrating knowledge and experience in user experience design, including: usability best practices, industry standards, information architecture, and user-centered design principles

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Marketing, Design, Psychology, or other related area; or 4+ years’ experience in digital consumer products. 
    • Certification in UX may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years professional experience with user-centered design and analysis for responsive web, and/or media and information sites.
  • Demonstrable understanding of core facets of UX, including:
    • Research
    • Information architecture
  • Experience with usability testing and user interviews
  • Understanding of user interface patterns for mobile web, desktop and apps
  • Advanced communication skills with the ability to explain the design rationale behind concepts
  • Success working collaboratively with developers, designers, product managers and non-technical stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with prototyping software such as Axure
  • Experience working on clinical- or health-focused projects
  • Proficiency with Sketch
  • Experience with metrics analytics software such as Adobe SiteCatalyst
