Medscape, a division of WebMD, develops and hosts physician portals and related mobile applications that make it easier for physicians and healthcare professionals to access clinical reference sources, stay abreast of the latest clinical information, learn about new treatment options, earn continuing medical education credits and communicate with peers.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Are you passionate about combining the art of writing with communicating the most recent advances in medicine? WebMD Global is seeking a passionate, adaptable, and team-oriented medical writer to create proposals seeking funds for the development of independent medical education (IME) programs. These programs are published on the leading healthcare professional education site, Medscape.org, with the capability of improving the care of patients worldwide. Please be able to speak to your medical writing experience. This position is located in London with the potential to work from home.

What You’ll Do:

  • Write gap statements and needs assessments that are clear and concise, follow recognized standards, and are supported by internal and external data
  • Use templates and tools to write proposals that tell a compelling story on the rationale, instructional intent and value of the proposed educational solution
  • Collaborate with medical writers to edit/condense/rewrite proposals for grammar, punctuation, style-requirement, and alignment with the strategic objectives of the proposal
  • Participate in proposal initiation calls with stakeholders to obtain details and direction for grant proposal development, documenting timelines, clinical focus and education and assessment plans
  • Deliver assignments according to specified timelines and quality standards
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of important clinical issues, relevant literature, clinical practice guidelines, approved therapeutic drugs and regimens, therapeutic pipelines, and key opinion leaders
  • Quickly acquire up-to-date knowledge of other therapeutic area(s), as needed
  • Stay current in advances in CME, instructional design, and data storytelling
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree preferred (MD, RN, NP, PA, PhD, PharmD or comparable) in a medical or science-related specialty; a Bachelor's degree in life sciences, public health, clinical sciences, or a communications/journalism discipline with several years’ work-related experience in medical writing may be considered instead
  • Attention to detail with high level of accuracy
  • Has a flexible mind set and excellent time management and organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a highly deadline-driven environment, while taking into consideration stakeholders based across multiple time zones
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills (encompasses verbal, written, listening)
  • Be available for a limited amount of travel (~10%)
  • Be process-oriented and able to find new ways to improve on existing process
  • Able to maintain a friendly and productive relationship through clear articulation and an effective communication style with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently under moderate supervision with a positive attitude/very high energy and willingness to accept varied assignments
  • Excellent computer skills that includes working remotely on shared networks and cloud-based systems, and a high degree of proficiency using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred

  • At least 2 years’ experience in healthcare industry or in medical education preferred. This may include medical education/communications company, professional medical publisher, academic institution/hospital/university center, medical society, etc
  • At least 2 years’ experience writing and/or editing content for clinicians or grants/proposals for new business opportunities
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with cross functional teams and external partners toward common objectives
  • Familiarity with IME/CME/CE standards and processes
  • Experience with web-based data and document sharing sites (such as Box, Read Cube, Tableau and SharePoint)
  • Experience using web-based project management tools (such as Workfront)
