Position Summary:

The Medical Proofreader/Copywriter is a crucial member of the LBU Audience Engagement department; in this capacity, he/she works closely with a number of teams (including Audience Engagement, Operations, and Product Development), as well as the rest of the LBU staff, to support the development of promotional content intended for physicians/healthcare professionals. The Medical Proofreader/Copywriter is responsible for understanding MedscapeLIVE! primary products from a functional and process standpoint, and for ensuring error-free final deliverables. As the department’s designated quality assurance check, the Proofreader/Copywriter provides detail-oriented, side-by-side and functional reviews of jobs at various stages in the project life cycle, and effectively communicates any errors or deviations to the appropriate team member(s). The Proofreader/Copywriter must have good background knowledge of several medical therapeutic areas (oncology, infectious diseases, cardiology, diabetes, etc.) and healthcare industry (pharmaceutical terminology, clinical trials designs, understanding of biostatistics, peer-review journals, etc.). This position supports internal teams based in the US.


What You’ll Do:

  • Create and edit templates and slides, including text, images, and graphics, to ensure consistency and correctness
  • Format reference citations according to modified AMA style
  • Edit for spelling, punctuation, grammar, syntax, usage, clarity, format, and flow
  • Ensure assets include the proper content and context (from a regulatory medical writing perspective) and clear and consistent medical/scientific messages, are accurate and complete, and adhere to applicable regulatory guidelines and departmental and editorial standards.
  • Ensure that content and reference citations adheres to AMA and in-house styles
  • Edit summary reports that evaluate the impact of educational activities
  • Support the Audience Engagement staff by ensuring that jobs are error-free at various stages in the project life cycle
  • Provide detail-oriented, side-by-side and functional reviews of MedscapeLIVE! primary program assets
  • Develop a solid understanding of internal workflow processes and specific product requirements
  • Build relationships with internal team members in order to understand their needs and learn how to best address them from an efficiency standpoint
  • Effectively communicate with cross-departmental teams to ensure the timely and accurate completion of all assigned work
  • Efficiently prioritize daily workload to meet all deadlines; proactively escalate situations that may jeopardize timing and/or quality

Who You Are:

Exceptional proofreading and copywriting skills are essential; additionally, the ideal candidate is comfortable working collaboratively as well as independently, juggling multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment. Someone who thrives in a liaison position to collaborate with operations, audience engagement, project management, design and account management.



  • This position requires a Bachelors or Master’s degree in a scientific/medical/clinical discipline with at least 5 years of proof reading/editing experience
  • 2+ years of regulatory medical writing experience for a pharmaceutical company or contract research organization, and an understanding of clinical regulatory documentation requirements 
  • Proven copy editing skills with high level of attention to detail and experience in a broad variety of medical therapeutic areas
  • Proficiency in AMA style
  • Strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written)
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to efficiently coordinate and work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a highly deadline-driven environment, while taking into consideration stakeholders based across multiple time zones globally
  • Ability and desire to meet deadlines and deliver results with minimum supervision by creatively using existing resources in a productive and/or innovative way, to quickly deal with unforeseen issues, and suggesting plausible solutions to ensure that timelines are consistently met
  • Positive attitude/ very high energy with a willingness to accept varied assignments
  • Knowledge of internet technologies with previous online experience a plus
  • Good computer skills, including MS Product Suite (Excel, Word, GMAIL) required



  • Experience with web-based document sharing sites (SharePoint preferred)
  • Experience using web-based project management tools preferred
  • Familiarity with medical terminology required; experiences editing for medical publishing/CME/MLR and editorial processes preferred
