Medscape, a division of WebMD, develops and hosts physician portals and related mobile applications that make it easier for physicians and healthcare professionals to access clinical reference sources, stay abreast of the latest clinical information, learn about new treatment options, earn continuing medical education credits and communicate with peers.

The Associate Director, Outcomes and Insights for Medscape Education will oversee the development of custom outcomes reports and other deliverables that offer valuable insights into the impact of education and continuing needs of healthcare providers. The ideal candidate has a high degree of applied research expertise, managing data, conducting data collection and analysis (e.g., univariate, bivariate, and multivariate), and report writing and data visualization for audiences of varying levels of technical expertise. The Associate Director must have experience mentoring and/or supervising junior level staff and managing projects. The Associate Director is collaborative, creative, strategic, and curious and has the ability to recognize and solve problems independently. The position will work independently and collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders and must be able lead research studies from conceptualization to presenting final results and recommendations. In addition, this position will work closely with sales and strategy to conceptualize and execute outcomes and insights deliverables. The ability to strategically organize information from a variety of sources into one cohesive story and to utilize Tableau to do so is important.

Oversee Custom Medscape Outcomes and Insights Projects

  • Be a consultant to Sales and Strategic Directors to deliver outcomes and insights deliverables that tell a compelling story of education impact and continuing needs
  • Supervise and mentor research associates who are responsible for literature reviews, data analysis, and reporting
  • Execute custom outcomes and insights projects by:
    • Selecting and/or creating appropriate extant data and data collection tools and procedures
    • Collecting data in conjunction with Audience Engagement as needed
    • Selecting and performing appropriate qualitative and quantitative statistical analyses (bivariate and multivariate analyses, logistic regression analysis, chi square, p value) and effect size calculations (Cramer’s V, Cohen’s d) 
    • Interpreting and synthesizing analytic results
    • Preparing written reports with visual aids to visually present the data 
    • Recognizing and providing actionable recommendations and key findings (i.e. “the story behind the data”) 
    • Communicating methods and results to internal and external stakeholders demonstrating an understanding of the health care and medical education industry
  • Manage insights research projects by:
    • Tracking and reporting to management progress of projects, adjusting as necessary to meet business objectives
    • Engaging with appropriate stakeholders and managing team members to complete deliverables on time and within specifications
    • Completing multiple reports each quarter and independently prioritizing tasks related to the completion of those reports to deliver them on time and within specifications
  • Collaborate with the data analytics team to develop and implement efficiencies in data management, analytics, and reporting by:
    • Observing and documenting processes, making recommendations for improvements, and collaborating with others to implement those improvements
  • Contribute to thought leadership by:
  • Attending professional conferences
  • Authoring/co-authoring posters/presentations to disseminate research results at professional conferences and in manuscripts

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in public health, psychology, sociology, or related field with minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience OR Ph.D. in public health, psychology, sociology, or a relevant discipline with minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Content knowledge in medical education, public health, and/or health care
  • Demonstrated experience in data visualization and management using Tableau 
  • Hands-on experience with R, SPSS, or SAS
  • Experience mentoring and/or supervising staff
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word)
  • Ability to learn/use cloud-based software systems (e.g. Workfront, End Note, Box, SharePoint, Sales Force, Google)
  • Experience designing statistical analysis plans and methodological strategies for prospective and retrospective studies
  • Experience in using appropriate data management and manipulation techniques to carry out statistical analyses
  • Demonstrated experience conducting univariate, bivariate, and multivariate analyses (logistic regression, multiple regression, etc) and effect size calculations (Cramer’s V, Cohen’s d) 
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to efficiently work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a highly deadline-driven environment, while taking into consideration stakeholders based across multiple time zones
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative setting
  • Demonstrable critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and high degree of initiative
  • Exceptional focus on accuracy, attention to detail, and consistency of work
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively internally and externally
  • Positive attitude/high energy with a willingness to accept varied assignments
