Review of Optometry delivers the growing vision care market by serving optometrists' practice and patient needs with clinical, practice management, news and market trend information. Review of Optometry offers proven circulation and editorial leadership in the optometric market. 

Review of Ophthalmology highlights current, clinically relevant information on surgical techniques, disease diagnosis and management and new technologies. Its physician and staff editors present timely reports in a format that stresses accessible editorial information and graphics, including news, regulatory issues, ophthalmic subspecialties such as glaucoma, retina, refractive surgery, cornea and external disease, pediatric ophthalmology and oculoplastics, as well as coverage of practice management, contact lenses and optical. 

General Description 

The Publisher, Reviews Group is responsible for setting the editorial direction and policies for the Reviews publication, products and services, and ensuring each issue, product and publication meets the established standards.  The Publisher manages a team of managers and/or directors who supervise a staff of writers and editors who are responsible for generating content for assigned publications/projects as well as meeting/event planning and administrative support.  In addition, the Publisher is responsible for developing, maintaining and increasing revenue from advertising for all Review Group editions and supplements and meetings.   The position provides ongoing support to customers/clients and provides outstanding customer service.  The Publisher oversees projects and business relationships with accounts.  The Publisher also supervises a staff of Sales Managers tasked with the sale of the Review Group’s products and services to assigned territories, providing ongoing support and outstanding customer service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare business plan outlining strategic initiatives and goals for the publication
  • Direct management and supervision of sales department
  • Responsible for producing a profitable publication, working with sales, editorial, circulation and production
  • Responsible for generating revenue
  • Manage sales team and accompany and assist with sales calls as needed
  • Develop sales and promotional materials
  • Keep current on major developments which effect the optical industry
  • Attend all industry and association meetings promoting the Reviews Group
  • Develop new electronic initiatives to promote and develop the Reviews Group readership
  • Manage and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Reviews Group publications
  • Work with finance and senior management to establish publication budgets and planning
  • Responsible for adherence to established budgets
  • Ensure high quality publications, which meet the needs of the target audience and editorial/content standards
  • Hire, train and develop staff members
  • Provide coaching, feedback and mentoring to staff
  • Proactively address employee performance issues and complete performance reviews
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 10+ years of experience in the healthcare/optical industry
  • 8+ years management experience
  • Excellent vision and leadership skills required
  • Medical/pharmaceutical/optical knowledge a must
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and time management skills required
  • Understanding of readers’ needs
  • Healthcare publishing market experience required, preferably in optical industry
  • Competency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with peers and cross-functional members of the team
  • Ability to lead and direct all facets of the business
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High energy and accountable with solid work ethic and a commitment to quality
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity and strategic relationship building skills

Travel
