What You Will Do:

Under general supervision of a pathologist, independently performs or assists in accessioning, dissection, description and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens, and assists in compiling pathology QA program data.

Duties include: Performs and/or assist pathologists in the accessioning, dissection, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of anatomical specimens. Performs frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations, within established protocol and procedural parameters. Participates in the accessioning and labeling of specimens, specimen storage and disposal, and the maintenance of reagents and equipment. Performs proper maintenance of equipment, adequate supplies and cleanliness needed in the performance of gross anatomic dissection. Assist in developing and monitoring QC and QA program for pathology. Monitors and maintains data in accordance to the Anatomical Pathology QA procedure. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

What You Will Bring:

Education

Bachelors in Science required
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution with ASCP certification for Pathologist Assistant or eligible. If eligible, must become board certified within 1 year.



Qualifications
Knowledge of accreditation and certification requirements and standards.
Knowledge of accession, dissection, anatomical description, and histological sampling methods and techniques.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and /or infection control standards.
Knowledge of gross room pathology procedures, protocols, and techniques.
Ability to perform frozen sections and other intra-operative consultations.
Knowledge and ability to compile data and maintain records for QA and QC data.
