What You Will Do:

Neurosciences includes, but is not limited to, neurology, epilepsy program, stroke program, interventional neurology, neuro hospitalists, and neurosurgery. The Senior Director has direct oversight of the practice management agreement (PMA) with the neurology practice. The Senior Director coordinates associated councils for neurosciences to meet the terms of the PMA.
The Senior Director has influence across all Valley Health entities via a matrix relationship. The entities consist of the acute care facilities, critical access hospitals, urgent care centers, diagnostic services, the physician community and any service that will affect the patient's pathway of care.
The Senior Director is responsible for meeting routinely with departments that support the service line in the continuum of care for the neuroscience patient i.e. surgical services, intraop neuro monitoring, EMU, neuro-intensive care and nursing departments and rehabilitation services.
The Senior Director has direct supervision of the neurodiagnostic lab, inpatient pain management program, navigation program, system tele-stroke, Get Well Loop, the patient family advisory council, and the ImPact program for concussion management.
Strategy
The Senior Director is responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of Neuroscience services throughout Valley Health. The Senior Director will evolve the service line in a manner that best fits the strategic plan of Valley Health that will aim to grow volumes and increase revenues. Provides leadership across the system for the neuroscience continuum from community outreach, EMS collaboration through acute care and aftercare maintenance. The Senior Director works collaboratively with system and entity executive leadership to establish transformative service line growth strategies, develop operational plans and drive execution.
• Plans and sets long-term objectives and directs activities to ensure volume growth, clinical and financial management, deliver outstanding quality outcomes, and increased customer satisfaction for physicians, staff, and patients
• Accountable for service line strategic plan, implementation, and timeline
• Completes reset annually of the strategic plan deliverables and goals with the business development team
• Develops, implements, and evaluates programs and initiatives in order to meet volume, financial, quality and clinical standards
• Participates in hospital planning activities to ensure the service lines' business plan and strategies are consistent
• Partners with population health and the medical group in the development of strategies
• Responsible for the optimizing the continuum of care for patient’s journey through the service line
• Develops strategies to reduce leakage transfers from Valley Health
Program Growth
• Partners with marketing for brand/reputation which includes physician loyalty, market share, and Valley Health recognition as the preferred provider
• Collaborates with marketing, Valley Health Medical Group leadership, and the physician workforce to identify outreach strategies
• Explores predictions and possibilities about the future of neurosciences to develop growth strategies and/or change how service is provided across the system
• Implements, monitors, and documents ongoing program growth to ensure quality patient care using appropriate hospital resources
• Coordinates with the medical group on recruitment needs and retention strategies for physicians and advanced practice providers
• Responsible for growth which includes optimizing available providers by improving and expanding access throughout the region
Quality and level of services
• Collaborate with physicians and administration across the system to ensure best practices are implemented and consistent to provide a standard of care throughout Valley Health
• Ensures participation in applied research as appropriate
• Collaborates with the quality department and is responsible for quality metrics specific to the service line. This includes accreditations/certifications, NAEC (epilepsy) and stroke certification, and Blue Distinction for neurosurgery as appropriate.
• Continually reviews and analyzes the operations of the neurosciences departments
• Anticipates active changes in care delivery and positions the team for success such as new technologies, alternative payment programs, increases in outpatient care services, other as appropriate
Stewardship
• Prepares, manages, and monitors operational and capital budgets for neuroscience service line and analyzes and prioritizes budget expenditures in light of revenue impact on specified services
• Cost-effectiveness and efficiency, which will include clinical transformation and reduction in supply/labor costs
• Monitors total costs of care, as well as identifying opportunities to reduce cost per case and transforming the care process to streamline and foster increased efficiency
• Works with key physicians to solicit physician support for cost containment. Research cost effective ways of decreasing inventory and improving vendor contracts
• Tracks and monitors overall service line economic performance indicators.
• Increase revenues as measured by annual net operating revenues for inpatient and outpatient services through program development, integration, and marketing

What You Will Bring:

Education

Bachelors degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field required
Master's degree in Business, Healthcare Administration or related field required

Experience
10 years of Neurosciences - Healthcare/Medical - experience required
10 years of leadership experience required

Qualifications
Excellent communication skills required
Effective leadership skills including critical thinking and a system approach to ensure quality of services required
Ability to provide oversight across multi-hospital system required
