What You Will Do:

The Nurse Educator develops and applies evidenced-based nursing practice standards to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Oversees evidence-based, individualized, effective care to patients and families in an environment of clinical excellence. Oversees the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise which fosters the development of competencies in the learner. Provides and supports Shared Governance and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall nursing organizational goals. Oversee the orientation of new employees on nursing units including development and maintenance of weekly orientation objectives and monitoring each employee's progress. Supports house wide professional practice education programs such as nursing assessment, preceptor classes, shared governance and professional practice ladder. Understands PI principles and oversees process improvement and risk management issues. Serves to enhance staff nurse retention by role modeling professional practice. Responsible for critical value reporting and addressing staff issues with compliance. Investigates risk reports and trends data. Provides ongoing assessment of quality data Mother/baby and L&D unit settings. This position will support team in staffing capacity for up to 12 hours per pay period.
Clinical Practice Outcomes: Oversees evidence-based, individualized, effective care to patients and families in an environment of clinical excellence. Collaborates with clinical staff and Nurse Practitioner in the management of complex patients requiring advanced skill and knowledge through integration of the multiple disciplines needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Demonstrates clinical expertise by providing supportive interventions during patient care crisis. Oversees evidence-based, individualized, effective care to patients and families in an environment of clinical excellence. Assists patient care team in applying evidenced based practice to design, revise, implement and evaluate patient plans of care. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team in the development, revision, use and maintenance of protocols, pathways/order sets. Collaborates with Shared Governance Councils to ensure evidenced based care is provided and outcomes evaluated. Oversees evidence-based, individualized, effective care to patients and families in an environment of clinical excellence. Collaborates with Director to ensure human and fiscal resources are available to provide care. Oversees evidence-based, individualized, effective care to patients and families in an environment of clinical excellence. Assists the Director in the formal and informal performance evaluation of nursing staff as appropriate.
Staff Development: Oversees the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise and directly or indirectly fosters the development of competencies in the learner. Plans and directs individualized orientation for each new staff member on unit and monitors the orientee’s progress throughout their orientation. Oversees the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise and directly or indirectly fosters the development of competencies in the learner. Monitors and revises education programs (orientation, preceptor, CE luncheons) to reflect current trends in efficiency, clinical practice and research. Oversees the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise and directly or indirectly fosters the development of competencies in the learner. Responsible for the selection, training, assignment and evaluation of unit-based preceptors. Oversees the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise and directly or indirectly fosters the development of competencies in the learner. Collaborate with staff to enable them to demonstrate learning and the continuing competencies/skills needed for advancement in their clinical practice. Oversees the development, planning, presentation and evaluation of educational activities within areas of expertise and directly or indirectly fosters the development of competencies in the learner. Supports Nursing research through application of research to practice, presentation of research finding, and assisting staff in participation in research projects.
Leadership: Provides and supports Shared Governance and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall nursing organizational goals. Collaborates with the Shared Governance Education Council to ensure the development of yearly education plan for unit(s) based on needs assessment and oversees the development and implementation of the education plan with outcomes to measure the plans effectiveness. Provides and supports Shared Governance and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall nursing organizational goals. Provides guidance, resources and knowledge for professional growth of others through in-services and educational programs. Provides and supports Shared Governance and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall nursing organizational goals. Serves as a clinical expert to Shared Governance Councils, committees, and administrative teams. Provides and supports Shared Governance and professional practice activities to achieve departmental and overall nursing organizational goals. Collaborates with nursing leaderships and other professionals in teaching, consultation, management, research, facilitation and change agent activities.
Professional Development: Professional development is the lifelong process of active participation by nurses in learning activities that assist in developing and maintaining continuing competencies, enhancing professional practice and supporting achievement of career goals. Completes CE credits each year (Educators may use CEs from classes they teach. What You Will Bring:

Education

MSN or MS in related field required or actively pursing MSN

Experience
Registered Nurse with five years clinical experience

Certification & Licensures
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required *
Based on primary state of residency and in accordance with current Virginia Board of Nursing Regulations, must be licensed or eligible to practice pending licensure as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia with either a: Multi-state license, under the Nurse Licensure Compact OR Single-state license, valid in Virginia only. Certification in specialty preferred

Qualifications
