What You Will Do:

The Authorization Coordinator attends as the liaison for physician practices. Facilitates the processing of applicable outpatient diagnostic services by scheduling the patient, providing pre-registration, verifying insurance and ensuring preauthorization requirements have been met from all potential payor sources. Demonstrates a high-level understanding and application of insurance payors, interpretation of medical benefits and creates cost estimates. Extensive medical terminology, ICD-10 and CPT coding highly preferred. Required to gather clinical safety and medical device safety information, as well as accurately document information into Epic. Ability to quickly navigate multiple software programs and work with minimal supervision on individual and team projects. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required, including ability to speak with patients, physician offices, payors and internal customers while inputting information online. Must be able to successfully apply medical necessity criteria and authorization criteria to individual situations. Demonstrates a high-level understanding of discount programs and payment options, including the ability to facilitate financial conversations with patients. Must be able to communicate denials and peer to peer requests to physician office, as well as requests for additional clinical information and orders. Ability to accurately scan documents into Epic and input out of pocket amounts for upfront collections.

What You Will Bring:


High School Diploma or GED required
Associates preferred

Five years scheduling or patient registration experience required
Two years medical terminology/insurance experience required

Certification & Licensures
CHAA Certification required

Extensive insurance, benefits and authorization experience required
Exemplary understanding of the front end of the revenue cycle in healthcare environment required
Extensive Epic experience required
Excellent judgement and critical thinking skills to prioritize multiple tasks and problem solve required
Ability to work in high stress environment and under time constraints required
Ability to become Epic Super User required
Ability to enter clinical information and obtain authorizations online required
Proficiency in creating cost estimates and interpret various insurance benefits required
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required, especially telephone "on-stage" etiquette required
