What You Will Do:
The Cardiac Cath Lab Tech I functions as an essential team member in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Duties include but are not limited to scrubbing to assist the MD, circulating for supplies to assist the procedure or monitoring the patients' hemodynamic status during the procedure.
Working knowledge and monitoring of the following Radiography equipment Phillips X-Ray Xcelera Management System
Facilitates use of Philips and Xcelera Systems to obtain complete case studies for media storage
Notifies physician of extended fluoro times
Proficiently monitors patients condition through interpretation of electrocardiogram. Monitors and records patients blood and intra-cardiac pressures during procedures. Notifies physician of abnormalities or significant changes. remains patient focused in control room
Circulator for all interventional and diagnostic procedures performed in Cath Lab: Circulation (Scrub) Inventory billing system
Communicates with patient throughout procedure to help alleviate anxiety, determine changes in status, and access pain
Constantly assesses patient during procedure. Reports changes in condition to physician and team members.
Follows 5 medication rights and reduces potential medication errors
Initiates emergency resuscitation procedures following ACLS protocol as needed. Able to establish airway, defibrillate, perform CPR, and/or administer medications as required during these emergencies with competence under the supervision of physicians.
Obtains supplies needed during procedures
Operates IABP in absence of perfusionist for set-up and augmentation.
Operates injector proficiently during high pressure injections
Performs venipuncture following established IV protocol. Procedures include angioplasty, stents, interventional CRM procedures.
Administers contrast media under direct supervision of physician to visualize coronaries as directed.
Anticipates needs of the physicians.
Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping of patient
Assists in procedures performed in the Cardiac Lab
Calls report to receiving nurse regarding status during and post procedure and documents report hand off
Carries out medical/surgical asepsis during procedures
Completes documentation and patient charges, assuring accuracy before discharging patient from holding area
Explains post cath instructions to patient
Prepares patient through education, explanation and emotional support for each procedure.
Removes sheath post procedure when indicated, obtains hemostasis, and observes patient post procedure for changes in status or complications. Reports observations to resource nurse or physician as needed
What You Will Bring:
High School Diploma or GED Required
College level anatomy & physiology required
Graduate of accredited two (2) year Allied Health training program preferred
Three years patient care experience preferred
Training or working experience in an invasive cardiovascular environment preferred
Certification & Licensures
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart 'Healthcare Provider' (HCP) - AHA approved Required*
ACLS Certification (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Required prior to orientation completion
Acquire Cardiac - interventional (Cl) Radiography certification or a CVT with Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) certification within 2 years of employment
A Registered Radiology Tech may be hired in this position
*New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation
Competent to successfully interact with patients according to their special needs which may apply based on the age of the patient served.
Must possess communication skills necessary to relate to physicians, peers and patients on a professional and technical level.
