What You Will Do:

The VH Director of Community Pharmacy Services is responsible for all of Valley Health’s community pharmacy service sites of operation, and serves as a clinical resource for the health system. The primary functions of this director are to plan, direct, and monitor all financial, operational, professional, and clinical activities of Valley Pharmacy. As a clinical resource for the health system, this will include overseeing the health plan formulary and pharmacy benefits planning. This director will have ownership in the development of future growth through strategic planning, business planning for new pharmacy locations, and the establishment of effective relationships with hospital-based services (such as inpatient pharmacy, nursing departments, and care coordination) to enhance services for discharge patients. The director will ensure the success and growth of current and future pharmacy sites by creating effective business and operational plans, including departmental outcome measures, through the application of performance improvement methodologies. The director will recruit and hire qualified, competent individuals, and ensure a comprehensive orientation and training of staff that will enable proficient practice operations. This director will be charged with creating a culture that promotes outstanding patient satisfaction and employee engagement through focused efforts to provide a top-notch experience for everyone. This position has dotted line relationship with Valley Health Corporate Director of Pharmacy.

What You Will Bring:

Three years Pharmacy management within a hospital required
Three years Pharmacy management in retail pharmacy preferred


Three years Pharmacy management in retail pharmacy required
Five years Pharmacy management in healthcare preferred

Certification & Licensures
Current Commonwealth of Virginia pharmacist license required

Knowledge of the principles of growth, development and leadership required
Ability to demonstrate strong understanding of pharmacy operations, reimbursement and budget/finance required
Leadership skills to enhance services to include recruitment/retention of staff; program development, continuing education and staff development required
Ability to learn, teach and apply LEAN methodology required
Proven track record of business plan development and implementation; practice planning, action planning, execution and implementation of operating plans required
Excellent communication skills required
Ability to create an environment that encourages staff to report/resolve complicated issues required
