What You Will Do:

The Activity Therapist works as part of an in-patient multidisciplinary team who encourages individuals with mental illness, special needs and other circumstances to acquire new skills and to get involved in health-promoting leisure activities, such as sports, games, arts and crafts, and gardening as a way to improve mental and physical wellbeing. The objective of activity therapy is to counsel and encourage patients to develop leisure activities based on their individualized treatment needs. Leading, organizing, and scheduling structured therapeutic activities is an essential function of the job.

What You Will Bring:

Education

Bachelor's degree in art therapy, recreational therapy, music therapy or related field required

Experience
Two (2) years previous experience in providing structured therapeutic activities for mental health patients preferred

Certification & Licensures
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required *
* New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to completion of orientation.

Qualifications
Knowledgeable in cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development.
Demonstrates ability to assess, plan for care and provide treatment for assigned patient/family groups.
Competent to successfully interact with patients according to their special needs which may apply based on the age of the patient served.
Must have a reliable means of phone communication with hospital.
