Application Security Architect

The Application Security Architect will be dedicated to enhancing the security of Tyler’s development process, applications, and development operations. The Application Security Architect will partner with development groups to help consult, audit, and improve all aspects of the software development life-cycle. The Application Security Architect will create, manage, and drive secure software development through policies and procedures based on the OWASP OpenSAMM project. The Application Security Architect will help facilitate architecture review and recommendations for new cloud products and existing products. The Application Security Architect will help educate development groups on current and new secure application technologies. The Application Security Architect will build a software security roadmap that accounts for all of the items mentioned above and deliver it to senior leadership. The overall goal of the Application Security Architect is to improve Tyler’s secure development practices and reduce risk through out the enterprise.


  • Execute project plans and maintain the scope, schedule, and each party’s responsibilities.
  • Create policies and procedures for a secure software development life-cycle
  • Deliver and communicate policies and procedures to divisional development groups
  • Conduct planning sessions with key development leaders to identifying security GAPs in the current software development life-cycle.
  • Help conduct the software security maturity audit annually for all Tyler divisions
  • Consult and provide recommendations on secure cloud technologies and stacks
  • Field questions from developers and product owners on secure development practices
  • Help execute projects to increase Tyler’s overall security posture.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.


  • The Application Security Architect must be able to:
  • Manage multiple activities for multiple groups simultaneously without missing critical deadlines.
  • Achieve results without having direct control of the resources and be able to leverage these results across internal and external departments.
  • Write detailed policies and procedure documents.
  • Provide assistance to development and deployment groups to achieve project, team, and individual goals.
  • Build rapport with division contacts while actively influencing events and negotiating changes to achieve project goals.
  • Incorporate new information, make quick decisions, and keep the appropriate people informed of rapidly occurring developments.
  • Must have good organizational skills and work independently or in a team.
  • Must have excellent communication skills.

Education, Experience, and Skills
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in information technology, computer science, information assurance, or related field, or comparable work experience.
  • Three to five years’ software development experience.
  • Five years’ experience with Tyler products, or similar products.
  • Two years expierence with Amazon AWS platform security and technoligies
  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a fast paced, technical environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a positive, professional attitude.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as good listening skills.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and persuasion skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel.
