Pet Specialists of Austin is hiring for a Neurology Veterinary Technician to join our specialty hospital!

The schedule currently needed for this position is a 4 day work week Monday-Thursday either 8 AM - 6 PM or 7:30 AM - 5:30 PM with some flexibility to stay later as needed for surgeries.

Pet Specialists of Austin is a 24 hour emergency and specialty referral hospital that invests heavily in our teams' growth and development. Role Responsibilities:

Assist service leads and teammates in the successful day-to-day operation of Pet Specialists of Austin. Perform technical and administrative functions while adhering to company-wide practices, protocols, and procedures. Provide top quality care and customer service to all patients and clients. Demonstrate solid technical aptitude and take a proactive approach to assist service leads and teammates on varying tasks each day. Maintain patience and compassion at all times. Work with, or under, supervision of a doctor, lead technician, or an approved colleague until receiving the approval to work on various tasks, independently. This process will be completed by getting your training manual signed off, completed, and approved. Our goal is for you to be an independent worker who values being part of a team

  • A hands-on helper, who is available to take direction from supervisors in terms of day-to- day tasks and responsibilities 
  • Performs patient admission/discharge 
  • Including but not limited to client greeting, history taking, and vitals 
  • Assist doctors in the examination of patients 
  • Obtaining diagnostics (blood draws, radiographs, doppler blood pressures, etc.) 
  • Restraint for examination 
  • Assist and/or perform radiographic set-up and execution 
  • Perform venipuncture 
  • Blood draw 
  • Catheter placement 
  • Induce, maintain, and recover anesthesia, to be adapted via training to the MRI suite and surgical suite. 
  • Provide handling and disposal of stocked items, as well as cleaning of the treatment area 
  • Provide excellent client communication 
  • Discuss and explain to clients after procedure care 
  • Discuss and explain to client's long-term care of new diagnoses 
  • Provide basic animal husbandry and care for in-hospital patients 
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly tasks as assigned by supervisor 
  • Be mindful of the overall cleanliness of the practice 
Our Ideal Candidate:
    • Personal fondness for dogs and cats 
    • 2+ years working in a veterinary setting; clinic or hospital 
    • Proven ability to pay strict attention to detail 
    • Proven level of comfort and acceptance of taking direction from superiors 
    • Experience with restraint  
    • Solid communication skills; ability to express self clearly and professionally 
    • Solid client and patient relationship skills 
    • Excellent interpersonal skills 
    • Enjoys and is able to work as part of a team, as well as an individual contributor 
    • A positive attitude, even when faced with adversity or under pressure 
    • The ability to lift objects and patients of up to 50 pounds 
    • The ability to follow directions with and without supervision 
    • Confidence in running anesthesia and understanding the anesthetic recovery process for basic and complex cases
