Elgin Veterinary Hospital is hiring a full-time Pharmacy Technician to join their team!   
  
The purpose of the pharmacy technician (PT) is to fill medication in accordance with established proven processes and procedures.  The PT will have an expert understanding of the hospital’s pharmacy including general knowledge of each medication and product carried in the hospital.  The PT will help the inventory manager (IM) with pharmacy stocking, maintaining reorder points, and knowing where any item can be found.    
  
Primary Responsibilities:  
  
·         Exhibit a technical knowledge of products sold including pharmaceuticals and OTC products.  
·         Responsible for fulfilling all medication fill requests, both new scripts and refills.  
·         Responsible for fulfilling all department requests for floor stock.  
·         Accurately documenting communications regarding medication scripts and refills in medical record.  
·         Ensure proper housekeeping procedures for pharmacy area.  
·         Create and maintain all pharmacy proven processes.  
·         Work along side inventory manager (IM) to prevent inventory shrinkage.  
·         Work alongside IM to track medications as they approach expiration dates.    
·         Oversee all pharmacy items prepared for pick up.    
·         Implement and run weekly cycle counts on all pharmacy items.  
·         Helping unpack and restocking weekly orders and ensuring accuracy of invoices/packing slips.  
·         Maintain digital SDS. Coordinate any necessary training for team members.    
·         Follows OSHA guidelines concerning safety and handling of hazardous material.    
  
Requirements:  
  
·         2-year minimum veterinary technician or veterinary assistant experience  
·         Proven ability to do accurate medical math.  
·         Complete 7 hours of CE training per year with at least 4 hours related directly to pharmacy (new drugs, laws & regulations, inventory management, etc.)  
·         Strong communication skills including: the ability to actively listen, empathize, relate to clients and co-workers, and train team members effectively.  
·         Strong attention to detail: commitment to extreme accuracy and double-checking work.  
·         Willingness to ask questions: must feel comfortable and confident in following up with DVMS and staff on questions that arise regarding patient medications (dosages, directs, quantity, etc.).  
·         Knowledge of spelling and the meaning of commonly used veterinary and medical terminology to accurately enter specific information into patient records.  
·         Ability to delegate as appropriate.  
·         Ability to provide and exemplify expert customer service.    
 
Reporting Structure:  
Reports directly to the practice manager.  May take direction from DVMs daily.  Works alongside the entire team to implement processes, provide training and support, and ensure compliance with all pharmacy processes.
