Job Overview
The Accountant will have a strong background in accounting principles, financial reporting, and experience with COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) administration. The Accountant will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate financial records, compliance with regulations, and efficient COBRA benefit administration.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Generate regular financial reports for management review.
COBRA Administration:
- Oversee the administration of COBRA benefits for eligible employees.
- Maintain accurate records of COBRA participants and their benefit elections.
- Coordinate with HR to ensure compliance with COBRA regulations and timely communication to qualified beneficiaries.
General Accounting:
- Perform day-to-day accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and company policies.
Audit Support:
- Collaborate with internal and external auditors to provide necessary documentation and support during audits.
- Implement audit recommendations and process improvements.
Tax Compliance:
- Assist in the preparation of corporate income tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
- Stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the organization.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance efficiency.
- Implement improvements to enhance accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification is preferred.
- Proven experience as an accountant, with knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience in COBRA administration is required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Previous experience in auditing and tax preparation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
