Anthony Wayne Animal Hospital is looking for a Veterinary Assistant to join us as part of the Thrive Pet Healthcare community.  
As a Veterinary Assistant you’ll play an important role in pets lives by providing end-to-end care for our precious patients. Your life-changing work will range from the hands-on care of facilitating outpatient treatments and performing laboratory tests, to support services including admitting and discharging patients. 
At Anthony Wayne Animal Hospital, we offer primary, urgent, boarding, and bathing services for dogs and cats in Maumee, Toledo Area, Perrysburg, and Rossford. We are proud to be AVMA-accredited and feline-friendly certified.
  
Role Responsibilities: 
  •  Support veterinarians to ensure quality veterinary care, advocate for pets, and educate clients.
  •  With each hospital function, assist veterinarians and the medical team to maximize productivity and maintain positive patient flow.
  •  Assist in maintaining relevant, comprehensive medical records with the support of practice systems.
  •  Obtain relevant health history and information from clients and maintain medical charts.
  •  Use safe restraining techniques, follow standard protocols, and sustain clean, sterile, organized treatment areas, exam rooms, and labs.
  
Experience & Skills Requirements: 
  •  At least one year of recent experience in veterinary practice or medical environment, with increasing responsibilities.
  •  Demonstrated ability to show empathy toward clients and treat animals with respect and compassion. 
  •  Ability to properly restrain patients.
  •  Demonstrated ability to accurately manage and record detailed information in medical records and other data management systems.  
  •  Knowledge of spelling and meaning of commonly used veterinary medical terminology and procedures.
  •  Ability to complete assigned tasks in the time allotted without direct supervision.
  •  Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  •  A commitment to outstanding client service.
  •  Ability to lift objects weighing 40 pounds without assistance and objects weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance.
  •  Ability to stay on task and work energetically for an entire shift, sometimes exceeding 10 hours per day.

 

Projected Schedule: Monday 7a-1p, Tuesday through Thursday afternoon 2p-6p (Friday afternoon on occasion as well), every other Saturday 8a-1p, and 2-3 weekend kennel shifts per month. 

These behind-the-scenes members of our staff can handle everything from the most spirited Labrador to geriatric cats needing TLC. There is lots of cleaning to be done, but also lots of love!
