Veterinary Assistant
Description
We are seeking to fill a position with good critical thinking and problem-solving skills, compassion, a positive attitude, follow-through and excellent communication and teamwork skills. Multitasking and acceptance of constructive criticism is essential.
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
Provide compassionate care to patients
Prepare and maintain exam rooms and treatment areas
Assist in restraining pets (dogs and cats)
Admit and discharge patients, ensuring that patients are well groomed and in a medically appropriate state. Counsels clients on various aspects of animal care; explains dosage/purpose of medications; reinforces proper care and procedures that should be followed at home; makes follow-up calls to clients
Taking full medical history
Light cleaning, stocking surgery set up and filling medications
Assists other staff members as required
Once basic training in accordance to hospital policies is completed, your roll will expand to learning how to perform blood draws, vaccination administration, catheter placement, running lab work and fluid administration
Walk and feed patients and boarders, clean cages and wash laundry
Basic office duties: answering phones, faxing, filing
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Experience in costumer service ideal, but not necessary
Some experience in small animal handling is preferred, but not necessary
Must be available to cover weekend and holiday shifts when necessary
