Veterinary Cancer Group LA is hiring a Full Time Experienced Doctor's Assistant to join our amazing radiation oncology team!

Pay Range: $24-27.00 hourly dependent upon experience.

With the help of the amazing staff at the Veterinary Cancer Group - one of the largest and most technologically sophisticated veterinary oncology groups, we are making this come true in our area. Our Doctor's Assistants are an integral part of the hospital. Doctor Assistant's are responsible for a variety of tasks related to customer service and patient care within the veterinary practice. Tasks include scheduling appointments for existing clients and preparing new clients for consults, animal handling, record management, presenting financial options and estimates, accurately reviewing service charges and entering into the client processing database, extensive client interaction, and preparing clients for their next appointment.

Job Responsibilities:  
  • Must have open availability Monday-Friday 7:30AM-8PM 
  • Assist the veterinarian with day-to-day organizational duties
  • Prioritize phone calls as follows:
  • Prioritize lab results for Dr. review
  • Delegate or compose referral letters.
  • Review new patient records prior to consultation for histopathology (which may not be present for lymphoma, lung tumors, mast cell tumors and bone tumors) and blood tests; attempt to obtain referring doctor’s notes to scan for other tests, treatments and procedures performed prior to referral
  • Facilitate phone follow-up to all undecided new clients within 1 week, repeat at 1 month if no recheck appointment scheduled (if directed) and update/maintain Excel worksheets tracking new patients. (CCS does the other system generated call back reminders)
  • Be familiar with the Sound Eklin system and eFilm software. 
  • Update referring veterinarians on the patient’s treatment and office visit with written documentation and correspondence. RVet link portal.
  • Be able to coordinate outside referrals and emergency transfers
  • Facilitate delivery of laboratory results to owners based on doctor comments.  If Dr. is not able to read through labs, triage them based on abnormalities, disease and next step. Take care of urgent callbacks as soon as possible, have normal results approved by the Dr. and call them.
  • Be able to update clients on patient status regarding procedures and hospitalized care (usually via technician in charge of case or hospitalized cases.)
  • Be able to prepare ultrasound and CT request forms,  and confirm appointments working with SCVI and ACCESS
  • Complete forms and follow-up for study patients (Coordinate all patients within study and communications with parent organization.)  Update databases (i.e., Merial)
  • Be able to formulate and explain patient care plans to clients
  • Assist technicians with patients and receptionists with clients if needed, with general working knowledge of equipment and procedures: including helping with ultrasound, radiographs, treatments, radiation etc.
  • Be able to discuss euthanasia and options for disposition of remains.
  • Be able to begin re-checking appointments by updating history/current meds and rechecking if radiographs are requested.
  • Enter computerized problem list for each new patient and problem
  • Communicate comfortably and professionally with referring veterinarians, their staff and other individuals within the veterinary community to develop a strong collaborative referring network.
  • Responsible for ensuring quality patient care for both outpatient and hospitalized animals.
  • Prepare packaging of specimens for transport to specific labs and ensure proper billing and complete history with assistance of the doctor (biopsy samples predominantly.)
  • Perform database searches in ezyVet
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
