The Opportunity:
Reporting into the Manager, Credit, the Credit Analyst is responsible for evaluating and managing credit risk for our customers across Canada. This role will conduct credit assessments, recommend credit limits, and ensure that our credit policies are followed. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business growth while minimizing risk.
Responsibilities:
- Credit Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of customer financial statements, credit reports, and payment history to assess creditworthiness and determine appropriate credit limits.
- Risk Management: Evaluate potential risks and make recommendations to minimize financial exposure while maintaining customer relationships.
- Credit Recommendations: Provide clear and accurate recommendations for credit approval, adjustments, and terms based on thorough analysis.
- Customer Interaction: Work closely with sales and customer service teams to address credit-related inquiries, resolve disputes, and manage payment issues.
- Reporting: Prepare detailed reports on credit assessments, aging receivables, and bad debt analysis for senior management.
- Process Improvement: Recommend process improvements to credit policies, procedures, and controls to enhance efficiency and mitigate risk.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
- Collections Support: Assist in managing collections strategies for overdue accounts and collaborating with the collections team as necessary.
Education:
- College diploma or bachelor’s degree in business, Accounting, Economics, Finance or a related field
Requirements:
- 2+ years’ experience in credit analysis, with a proven track record in assessing credit risk, managing portfolios, and making sound credit decisions
- Strong financial statement analysis skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced) and financial modeling
- Ability to communicate complex financial data in a clear and concise manner
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Familiarity with credit scoring models and ratings systems is an asset
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadline
- Confident and professional with the ability to adapt to the customer’s specific situation (both internal and external) and build strong relationships
- Bilingual (French/English) preferred
- Preference will be given to those with working knowledge of:
- Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)
- Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Rules
- Canada Privacy Act (PIPEDA)
