The Opportunity:
The Senior IT Specialist – Network is a frontline operations role responsible for the day to day monitoring, support, and maintenance of the organization’s production network infrastructure. This position serves as a Tier 1 network operations resource, ensuring network availability, performance, and stability.
The Senior IT Specialist works closely with other network team members, escalates complex issues as appropriate, and executes standard changes and maintenance activities in accordance with established processes and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Tier 1 operational support for the enterprise network, including incident response, troubleshooting, and service restoration.
- Monitor network health, performance, and availability using established tools and dashboards.
- Configure, support, and troubleshoot Cisco network hardware and software, including switches, routers, wireless, and firewalls, following approved standards.
- Configure, support, and troubleshoot Meraki network hardware and software, as well as other vendors, including switches, routers, wireless, and firewalls, following approved standards.
- Perform routine operational tasks such as device provisioning, port configurations, VLAN changes, and access updates.
- Execute approved network changes through the established Change Management process.
- Participate in maintenance activities, including firmware upgrades, patches, and hardware replacements.
- Accurately document network changes, incidents, and configurations, including updates to diagrams and operational documentation.
- Escalate complex or non-standard issues to Senior or Lead Network roles as appropriate, providing clear diagnostics and findings.
- Work collaboratively with other IT teams to support business operations and resolve network-related issues.
- Interact with vendors and service providers for incident resolution, hardware replacement, and circuit troubleshooting.
- Maintain network asset records, including device inventory and support status.
- Participate in on-call rotation and after-hours support for incidents or scheduled maintenance as required.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related technical field; or equivalent practical experience.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise LAN and WAN environments in an operational role.
- Strong working knowledge of LAN/WAN fundamentals, TCP/IP, routing, switching, and basic network troubleshooting.
- Hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies (switching, routing, wireless, firewalls).
- Solid understanding of Ethernet cabling, network hardware, and telecommunications circuits.
- Ability to follow established network standards, procedures, and escalation paths.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document work and communicate issues effectively.
- Strong customer service mindset and ability to work professionally with users, peers, vendors, and management.
- Demonstrated sense of urgency and accountability when responding to incidents.
- Ability to manage routine operational tasks while responding to unplanned network events.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working within defined processes.
- Ability to lift and carry network or computer equipment up to 50 pounds as required.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
- Experience working in a 24x7 operational or on-call support environment.
- Experience supporting networks in manufacturing, industrial, or multi-site enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with ticketing systems, monitoring tools, and change management workflows.
