The Opportunity:

The Senior Specialist is responsible for managing, enhancing, and optimizing critical Retail applications not limited to PDI and/or Laserfiche to ensure they effectively support key business functions across Retail Services. This role works closely with subject matter experts and Business Leadership to gather, analyze, and translate complex business requirements into scalable system solutions. The Senior Specialist contributes to the success of multiple Retail operations by ensuring application reliability, driving enhancements, and aligning technology capabilities with evolving business needs. They will also participate in complex cross‑functional initiatives and may function as a Project Manager for select efforts when dedicated PM resources are not available.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as Techno-Functional Owner for key Retail applications such as PDI including their configuration, performance, optimization, and ongoing support.
  • Engage and collaborate with business stakeholders to understand, document, and validate complex business requirements and translate them into clear technical and functional specifications.
  • Prioritize and evaluate business requests, recommend appropriate technical solutions, and coordinate delivery with internal IT teams, vendors, and business partners.
  • Actively contribute throughout the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and participate in Change Approval Board processes to ensure high‑quality solution delivery.
  • Analyze, translate, and simplify complex business processes into scalable, sustainable system enhancements aligned with Retail business strategies.
  • Participate in strategic planning exercises with the manager and help execute initiatives that support broader Retail and IT roadmaps.
  • Lead the investigation and resolution of escalated, complex production issues, ensuring minimal business disruption and continuous system reliability.
  • Function as the primary IT liaison for internal teams and external vendors related to assigned Retail applications, ensuring alignment and consistency in technical and business communications.
  • Exercise active ownership of major responsibilities, navigating issues and providing senior‑level problem‑solving and decision‑making.
  • Produce detailed timelines and effort estimates to support planning, resource allocation, and prioritization activities.
  • Perform project management duties, including planning, monitoring, and controlling for select cross‑functional initiatives or when dedicated PM resources are not available.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and implementation partners to support application enhancements, upgrades, and broader IT initiatives.

Education:

  • Post secondary education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Analysis, or related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

Requirements:

  • 5–7 years of experience in Business Systems Analysis, Application Support, or a similar technical-functional role supporting enterprise or Retail applications.
  • Experience working with or supporting Retail applications/platforms such as Infosys and PDI is an asset.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements gathering, solution design, testing, and release/change management.
  • Demonstrated experience working across multiple business areas—such as Lubes, LPGs, Wholesale, or Services—and translating complex business needs into actionable technical requirements.
  • Experience with project management and change management methodologies; formal training or certification is an asset.
  • ITIL Foundation certification (v3.0 or higher) preferred.
  • Superior analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex system issues.
  • Strong technical writing capabilities, including producing functional requirements, process documentation, and solution specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills for both technical and non technical audiences, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build alignment across teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, operate with minimal supervision, and take ownership of major responsibilities in a fast paced environment
  • Five days in office.
