Role: 
The Operations Manager is a senior member of the Plant Leadership team, reporting directly to the Plant Manager. The Ops Manager will work with Production and Maintenance Superintendents to ensure the smooth operation of the Plant on a daily basis, as well as assist the Business Development & Engineering team on capital projects. They will also assist with data collection, score keeping and projecting a standardized message regarding Company cultural and goals. 
  
Responsibilities: 
  • Ensure the day to day operations within the plant on both bacon and log production 
  • Directly responsible for all activities within the log processing and bacon areas including maintenance, IE and scheduling areas within the plant 
  • Monitor production yields throughout the plant and drive projects to increase productivity 
  • Ensure that plant production areas are following safety and GMP policies and procedures 
  • Manage and provide support to superintendents, maintenance manager and scheduling personnel 
  • Responsible for insuring the corporate operating policies and procedures are being administered correctly throughout the plant 
  • Ensure the quality of all products produced by the plant 
  • Coordinate with USDA officials to alleviate problems on the floor 
  • Work on and give input on all plant CapEx projects 
  • Record previous day’s operations report for daily DDS (Daily Direction Setting) 
  • Monitor plant pre-operational procedures throughout the plant 
  • Monitor all activities on the floor to ensure the safety and profitability of the area 
  • Attempt to create a good working relationship with union officials 
  • Work tasks will fluctuate depending on plant conditions and assorted special projects 
  • Job performance is measured by the Plant General Manager on how well the plant is performing its operations 
  • Lead and ensure proper directions at daily plant meetings 
  • Attend and give input at other various meetings throughout the plant as need or desire dictates 
  • Directly involved in evaluating whether or not an hourly employee should be rehired 
  • Evaluate superintendents and assorted management personnel on an annual basis 
  • Directly involved in disciplinary procedures throughout the plant.  These procedures may range from verbal warning to terminations  
  
Working Conditions: 
  • Physical demands of this position include a great deal of walking and stair climbing 
  • Potential hazards in work area may include knives, scissors, slicer blades and hot water 
  • Work area has many slippery floors 
  • Temperature and noise levels depending on what area of the plant employee is working 
  • Employee will typically work 55-60 hours per week M-F with some Saturday work as necessary based on production demand. 
  
Requirements 
Education: 
  • Minimum High School diploma or GED equivalent 
  • College experience preferred 
  
Experience: 
  • Minimum 15 years background experience in a packing plant with knowledge of all areas 
  • Minimum 5 years managing supervisors or managers in different areas 
  
Special Skills: 
  • Computer skills, Microsoft excel at an intermediate level or better 
  • Ability to read production reports 
  • Knowledge of all operations within the plant 
  • Management training 
  • Interpersonal communication skills 
  • Math skills 
  • Bilingual important, but not mandatory as long as translator is in area
