FEED MILL QA SPECIALIST
Description
Summary/Objective
The Quality Assurance Specialist plans and directs activities concerned with the application and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes and finished feeds. The QA Specialist also supports the Feed Mill Manager and his staff with additional activities as deemed necessary.
Essential Functions
Quality Assurance and Control
- Initiates Pilgrim’s standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation based on the prescribed requirements of the Food Safety Plan, Quality Assurance Manual and 5S principles.
- Assists facility management in maintaining the Standard Operating Procedures and work instructions necessary to achieve quality standards in manufacturing and finished feeds.
- Observes the Pilgrim’s prescribed programs to evaluate the precision and accuracy of manufacturing equipment, measurement, and analytical equipment in the facility facilities.
- Observes the Pilgrim’s prescribed programs to analyze, inspect and grade inbound ingredients and manufactured feeds.
- Initiates and implements Pilgrim’s prescribed methods and procedures for disposition of non-conforming material and observes the methods to adequately reject, dispose or rework non-conforming products.
Employee Management
- Directs workers engaged in scaling, mixing, cooling, metering and sampling of products in Quality Assurance practices and methods.
- Analyzes and resolves quality issues, or assists workers in solving manufacturing issues.
- Suggests and implements changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase throughput, quality and efficiency of manufacturing equipment and employees.
- Confers with other supervisors to coordinate activities of individual departments.
Records and Verification Activities
- Reviews the Pilgrim’s prescribed tabulation of data concerning ingredients, products, or process quality and reliability.
- Assists the Feed Mill Manager in maintaining FDA and other agency required records.
Additional Responsibility
- Interfaces with other departments and the Director of Quality Assurance to develop and implement training programs as required.
- Determines corrective actions and communicates those needs to the Feed Mill Manager and Director of Quality Assurance.
- Trains employees to identify and report Food Safety and quality issues.
- Manages all the Quality Assurance responsibilities of the facility and is responsible for reporting performance and achievements to facility management in regards to all prescribed QA, 5S and Food Safety goals.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are determined by the facility manufacturing schedule and supervisory needs.
Required Education and Experience
Work related experience in the manufacturing of feeds is required. Work related experience in Quality Assurance methods for animal feeds is preferred. A degree in Poultry Science or Milling Technology is preferred.
