FINISHING FIELD MANAGER I| SOUTHEAST IOWA

Nature of Position:
Work with JBS Live Pork contract producers primarily in the nursery phase, teaching the proper aspects of starting pigs in a wean to finish scenario. This includes, but is not limited to; proper feed and water management, proper ventilation management and proper identification and treatment of sick animals. There will also be times in this position that the Field Person will be asked to cover other (float between) field territories which could include working with pigs of different ages and stages in their development. This is a “hands on position” in which the individual will be working side by side with our contractors and Field Managers.
Essential Functions: (Order of Essential Functions does not indicate importance of Functions)
- Assist contract producers in the nursery phase.
- The ability to identify issues, develop potential solutions and implement corrective action within a swine production facility.
- A good understanding of animal health and biosecurity procedures.
- The basic knowledge of (or the ability to be trained in) proper swine husbandry skills.
- Ensure all SOP’s are implemented and hold site managers and contract growers accountable for processes.
- Identify and communicate process improvement opportunities.
- Record all required data and information as required by Standard Operating Procedures.
- Conduct regular farm visits, complete all pertinent paperwork, and follow-up with grower/site manager in written and/or verbal form.
- Responsible for carrying out the biosecurity program as outlined by veterinarians. This would include site, vehicle, and personnel programs.
- Maintain a veterinarian/client/patient relationship with the company’s veterinarians, and adhere to their guidelines with regards to herd health and improvement.
- Responsible for performing the euthanasia within the company requirements.
- Incorporate the core principles of PQA+ and the JBS Live Pork Animal Welfare Policy.
- Must enjoy working with swine and have the ability to work within a swine production facility environment on a nearly constant basis.
- Strong communication skills that allow the individual to work on a regular basis with contractors and their employees.
- The ability to work unsupervised while getting daily work completed on-time as needed with a focus on details.
- The ability to convince contractors and their employees to change methods or their behaviors to support changes within JBS Live Pork.
- Cover other field territories as requested.
- Responsible to perform all other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Qualifications:
- A current driver’s license and an acceptable MVR as determined by JBS.
- The ability to work safely in a physically demanding environment including the ability to lift 50 pounds up to 100 yards repeatedly, and push/pull up to 350 pounds with a cart on wheels when required.
- Have extensive knowledge in commercial swine production.
- Have extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office and related computer issues.
- Be willing to be on call 365 days a year, 24 hours per day, excluding vacation.
- Frequent travel will be required to complete job requirements.
- Be able to communicate, and be communicated with, in English orally and in writing.
- Be able to maneuver through narrow walk ways and ascend near vertical stairways.
- Be able to spend majority of work related time in confinement livestock facilities.
- Be comfortable working in close proximity to all age categories of swine (weaned-finish).
- Be responsive to visible signs and verbal alarms of animals.
- Be able to walk and stand for longs periods of time on different surfaces.
Working Conditions:
- General climate- Both climate controlled office and environmentally controlled confined livestock facilities.
- During summer months, outside temperatures may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit for entire scheduled work day.
- During the winter months outside temperatures may fall below 0 degrees Fahrenheit for entire scheduled work day.
- During and after heavy rains or snowfalls the road in and around the farms can become extremely muddy, snow covered, icy and difficult to maneuver on.
- During different job duties inside and/or outside noise can become very loud.
- Will be exposed daily to odors, dusts and gasses that may be uncomfortable or hazardous if proper procedures are not followed.
- Will be exposed to electrical boxes and machinery that are not to be entered or repaired by those who are not certified in basic electrical training and/or lock out tag out.
