Senior / Staff Control Applications Engineer

Mission (Why does this role exist?) and Scope (About the Job)

This position is within our Firmware Engineering group, where you will work in a small team to develop firmware for the Enphase IQ™ Series of microinverters and storage applications. You will be working in a multi-site team and expected to interface across multiple functions.


Key Responsibilities and Outcomes (What the Person needs to accomplish in the role ?)

  • Design and implement algorithms for generation control, area control in microgrids, load control and related power systems.
  • Design and implement embedded firmware for real time operation and control of the microinverter and battery storage, either on top of an RTOS or on bare-metal.
  • Design and simulate control strategies using software such as MATLAB Simulink, NL5 or Wolfram System Modeler
  • Ability to troubleshoot firmware related issues within complex systems.
  • Ability to carry a design task from concept to implementation.
  • Working with cross functional teams to test and troubleshoot issues. 
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work under minimal supervision

Qualifications: Education, Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Behaviour) and Experience

  • Masters in Controls/Power Electronics/Power Systems/Electrical/CS from a reputed institution (IISc, IITs, NITs)
  • 1 to 5 years of hands-on experience in algorithm and firmware development.
  • Good understanding of Control Theory (PLLs, stability analysis, PID controllers etc) required. Prior experience in designing, debugging and tuning control systems would be desired.
  • Good programming skills required. Knowledge of advanced C/C++ programming, RTOS concepts and microcontroller internals is desired.
  • Familiarity with at least one modelling and simulation software desired.
  • Familiarity with development tools such as Keil, GCC, GDB, Eclipse, GNU Make, etc desired.
  • Familiarity with Git, Jira and Confluence desired.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
