Position Title: Technical Manager

Location: Neenah, WI

Description:

We have an excellent opportunity for a Technical Manager to provide technical leadership at the Neenah Mill to achieve targeted facility and Specialty Paper objectives.  Priority focus on the safety and value of employees, while driving continual improvement in quality, customer service, business development, and cost management. 

 Responsibilities:

  • Direct site activities to achieve corporate and business expectations as to support the long term viability of the business
  • Actively engage and lead Packaging growth opportunities by communicating sales/marketing and customer expectations.
  • Facilitate appropriate trials and experiments to determine options available to achieve stated product requirements in packaging and label.
  • Define and execute capital projects which support the growth in packaging and label.
  • Facilitate appropriate trials and experiments for various R&D efforts.
  • Ensure customer’s product satisfaction and asset compliance with quality standards
  • Manage outturn sampling and Certificate of Analysis (COA) process.
  • Maintain an effective and efficiency system of visual standards (color, formation, embossing, etc) to ensure consistency in product quality.
  • Each product handling process goes through annual Failure Mode & Effects analysis (FMEA) that identifies potential quality failures & addresses gaps in process, inspection, & auditing.
  • Consistent and predictable quality is designed into the process by utilizing data acquisition and process control parameters.
  • Achieve long-term converting advantage for the Fine Paper Business through product support, production efficiency and cost management.
  • Manage Bill of Material set-up, application, and accuracy.
  • Drive cost savings through raw material selection, optimization, and application
  • Serve as technical liaison and Subject Matter Expert in supporting Planning, Sales, Customer Service, Product Development/R&D, etc. regarding new base papers, new product inquiries that support enhancing mill volume and cost structure.

 

  • Exercise personal leadership that demonstrates safety as a core value and forms the foundation on which we make all decisions and perform work.  Personal safety leadership is a requirement of the position.
  • Responsible for the safety performance and overall results of those employees/contractors/suppliers under their supervision.
  • Promote hazard recognition and incident reporting of all types (near miss, first aid, property damage, etc.) in areas of responsibility.
  • Demonstrate safety leadership by actively seeking purposeful safety interaction with ALL employees or in those areas of support.
  • Actively utilize the acquired Safety Leadership tools such as LLEs, Moment of High Influence, Darn Good Questions, and Management By Walking Around.
  • Responsible for timely completion of all items assigned in the VelocityEHS Action Register.
  • Responsible for ensuring 100% compliance on all regulatory items within area of responsibility.

 

 

Education/ Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related area such as pulp and paper science, and at least three years’ experience which demonstrates process troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving abilities preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years of Process Engineer experience in paper mill, coating, saturating or converting operations is preferred.
  • Must have the ability to design and evaluate equipment and processes in terms of chemistry, control strategies, mechanical integrity, energy transfer, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and fluid dynamics.
  • Understanding of activities and procedures required for efficient and quality work completion.
  • Strong computer skills including, but not limited to a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project. Experience with Oracle is helpful.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to communicate within all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively in a fast-paced production setting
  • Experience in a Lean Manufacturing environment is a distinct plus.
