Our Lead Coating Operator supports Mativ’s Sustainability & Adhesives Solutions Function. This individual provides all necessary day to day direction to the coating operators.  This requires a complete understanding of the equipment, processes, systems and operator capability.  This position reports to the shift supervisor and is responsible for the performance of the department during their shift. The shift schedule is 6a-6p.
responsibilities:
  • Assure a safe work environment for all employees.
  • Assure the department is producing a quality product in compliance with established standards. 
  • Accept full ownership of all activity in the coating department on their shift
  • Understand the operation of all equipment used in the coating department
  • Understand all processes and procedures associated with operating the coaters
  • Understand all materials used in the coating department
  • Assign work to operators based on their capabilities and limitations
  • Operate coaters as required to assure schedule compliance
  • Assure operators identify/account for scrap correctly, book correctly, log on and off correctly, label correctly, package correctly and perform line clearance correctly
  • Work with operators to minimize scrap
  • Understand the maintenance requirements for all coating equipment and assure maintenance is being performed on schedule
  • Troubleshoot/repair equipment if possible prior to involving maintenance without jeopardizing personal safety or safety of other employees 
  • Involve maintenance when equipment repairs are needed 
  • Mentor operators on safety, quality, equipment operation, systems, procedures, booking, logging and line clearance
  • Mentor operators to be able to perform quality checks (retains, weights, visual & dimensional issues)
  • Consider advancement potential for all operators and provide recommendations to supervisor
  • Promote a positive work environment while motivating operators to meet performance standards
  • Assure carryover of information to the following shift
  • Mix adhesives if mixing employee is unavailable
  • Other duties as required
qualifications:
Required
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to work in a team environment
  • Knowledge of the equipment, processes, material and systems used in the coating department.
  • High level of reliability including a good attendance record.
  • Positive Attitude
Preferred
  • Good working knowledge of ERP systems
  • Good computer and math aptitude
  • Has attended leadership development seminars
  • Highly organized, diligent, structured. 
 
Position Demands
Conditions are that of a manufacturing environment:
  • Air Temperatures can range from cold to hot.
  • Atmosphere may contain dust, fumes, and odors.
  • May include mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive and radiation hazards.
Employees are required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including:
  • Safety shoes (steel toe or composite toe)
  • Safety Glasses
  • Bump Caps
  • Protective Gloves, when performing certain tasks
  • Hearing Protection, when required
  • Other personal protective equipment as required for certain tasks.
  • Respirator
While performing the duties of this job the employee must meet the physical demands:
  • Be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Be able to push or pull heavy objects up to 250 pounds.
  • Be able to work 12-hour shifts.
  • Perform repetitive tasks.
  • Routinely stand, sit, hear, walk, and talk.
  • Reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and balance, sometimes in awkward or tight spaces.
  • Have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
