Title: Rendering Operations Engineer

Purpose & Scope: Oversee the operations of the Rendering Plant, Hides Processing, Raw Material & Finished Product Transportation, Environmental Compliance, and team development. Ensure all safety guidelines are in place and being followed. Ensure KPI's are met and follow up on issues. 



- The position of Operations Engineer for Swift Beef Company, a JBS USA Subsidiary, requires, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.

- Minimum 5 years background experience in a rendering production environment.
- Minimum 5 years background experience in environmental and wastewater operations and compliance.


Principle Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for ensuring the operation of the rendering plant under environmental compliance (Air permit, waste management).
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance of the wastewater plant, providing process control and engineering advice to achieve compliance.
  • Development and implementation of engineering changes to operational processes and/or procedures to increase efficiency and production while improving working conditions and maintaining cost levels.
  • Implement operational and engineering controls to achieve Greenhouse gases emissions reduction.
  • Implement projects that will drive innovation in the processing areas and equipment.
  • Liaising with all government and regulatory officials to ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory standards and requirements as well as ensuring adherence to JBS’S Good Manufacturing Practices.
  • Ensure that all operations management understand and model the behaviors embodied in JBS Values.
  • Overall management, both direct and indirect, to achieve operational goals, includes continuous training and development throughout all levels
  • Work to ensure the safety of all employees and all product produced by the plant on a daily basis by ensuring that all company policies are understood and adhered to at all times by the operations team.
  • Understand the key drivers of a successful operation to include Safety, Quality, Efficiency, Yields, Labor, Cost and People.
  • Provide daily production direction to ensure the plant achieves production goals and quality/food safety promises to customers.
  • As a key member of the plant leadership team, establish daily, weekly, monthly & yearly performance objectives and measurements and ensure that they are reviewed with the team on a regular basis and action plans are established when objectives aren’t met.
  • Make sure that staffing levels are appropriate at all times to meet customer needs, while at the same time achieving labor cost goals.
  • Work with the Human Resources team to manage relations within the operations function to establish effective performance and minimize turnover.
  • Partner with the plant and corporate scheduling function to ensure that raw materials are available to meet customer’s needs and to ensure that production schedules (flow, process, staffing, and layout) meet customer needs.
  • Continually review production processes to reinforce a culture of continuous improvement within the facility.
  • Work closely with the plant maintenance manager to ensure proper preventative maintenance and reliability of all assets within the operations area.
  • Achieve all production goals as set forth by the facility general manager.
  • Develop and manage a fiscal operations budget.
  • Works with the corporate sales teams to meet daily goals.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Department to build a capital project plan.


Working Conditions:

  • Physical demands of this position include a great deal of walking.
  • Employee may be required to work where regularly they may be exposed to fumes, dust and odors, as well as high noise levels from operations in the plant.
  • Employee may be required to lift equipment or perform maintenance that would require to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Employee may be required to work indoors and outdoors during seasonal heat and cold or other adverse weather conditions.
  • Employee will typically work 50-55 hours per week M-F with Saturday work if necessary.


Special Skills:

  • Adequate Computer skills: MSOffice,
  • Knowledge of all operations within the plant
  • Great communication skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred,



Internal: Both verbal and written communication with all areas of the plant as well as various corporate officials.          

External: Verbal and written communication with various customers on various projects or complaints.
