Role Description:
The Senior System Administrator will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and improving the organization’s IT infrastructure, ensuring the availability, reliability, and security of all systems. This role includes overseeing both on-premises and cloud environments, providing technical leadership, and collaborating closely with other IT teams to support day-to-day operations.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, and maintain servers (Linux, Windows, Unix) to ensure high availability and performance of critical systems, including file servers, databases, and virtual environments
  • Manage core services such as Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
  • Perform regular patching, software updates, and server maintenance to ensure system security and stability
  • Oversee virtual environments using platforms like VMware and Hyper-V
  • Design and implement cloud solutions (AWS, Azure, GCP) to meet business needs, ensuring optimal performance and scalability
  • Develop and implement backup strategies and disaster recovery plans to safeguard data and ensure business continuity
  • Perform regular testing of disaster recovery systems and validate their effectiveness
  • Monitor system performance using tools like Nagios, Zabbix, and SolarWinds
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and proactively troubleshoot hardware and software issues
  • Enforce security best practices, including patch management and vulnerability scanning
  • Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance with regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and PCI-DSS
  • Manage firewall rules, VPN access, and security policies to protect infrastructure
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python
  • Implement configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef to automate infrastructure management
  • Maintain detailed documentation of systems configurations and procedures
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior system administrators
  • Collaborate with other IT teams and vendors for troubleshooting and procurement
 
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience as a System Administrator in a large-scale environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • Strong proficiency in Windows and Linux server administration
  • Hands-on experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware and Hyper-V
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Expertise in managing core services such as Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP
  • Strong scripting skills with PowerShell, Bash, or Python
  • Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage systems and backup tools like Veeam or Acronis
  • Ability to work in an on-call rotation for after-hours support
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
 
Nice to Have:
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or equivalent
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE), CompTIA Server+, or other relevant certifications
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or equivalent
  • Experience with hybrid cloud environments and industry-specific compliance
